- "Because if I hear anything else that sounds like a complaint out of you, you'll be escorting rotting trash to the garbage moon."
- ―Bray, to FN-2187
The Garbage Moon of Maher was a moon located in the Unknown Regions. It was used as a dump site and, as a result, featured heaps of junk on its surface. The First Order's shipments of excavated construction waste from the planet Ilum led to a population of the world's fungi and winged subterranean carnivores also being transported to the garbage moon. In 33 ABY, the First Order stormtrooper FN-2187 attempted to smuggle a colony of the creatures from Ilum to the Garbage Moon of Maher, an endeavor in which he was ultimately assisted by the waste transport pilot Marialew.
Description
- "We've dug up a lot of their planet and dumped it here."
- ―Marialew, to FN-2187 about the Ilum creatures while on the Garbage Moon of Maher
The Garbage Moon of Maher was a terrestrial moon[2] located in the Maher system of the Unknown Regions in grid square G-7 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] It was situated at a distance of three weeks' travel with a relatively slow hyperdrive from[2] the Unknown Regions' Ilum system.[3] The Maher system also had at least one sun, and a celestial body loomed large in the moon's sky. The surface of the natural satellite appeared brown from space and featured heaps of junk.[2]
History
- "They should be okay here."
- ―Marialew, to FN-2187 about a population of the Ilum creatures while on the Garbage Moon of Maher
As part of its construction projects on the planet[2] Ilum,[4] the First Order excavated large amounts of material from the planet, including a type of fungus and a local winged subterranean carnivore—material that the state then shipped off as refuse to dump on the Garbage Moon of Maher. For that duty the First Order employed the human starship pilot Marialew.[2] In 33 ABY,[5] the human First Order stormtrooper FN-2187, whom the stormtrooper captain Bray had previously threatened with escort duty to the garbage moon for perceived complaining, discovered that the construction efforts on Ilum had disturbed a colony of the local creatures. As a result of a later argument, Bray followed through with his threat and assigned FN-2187 to garbage escort duty. The latter stormtrooper subsequently smuggled[2] a small group of[4] the creatures aboard Marialew's starship.[2]
A population of fungi and winged carnivores lived on the Garbage Moon of Maher as a result of refuse shipments from Ilum.
On the Garbage Moon of Maher, FN-2187 attempted to surreptitiously let the creatures out but was surprised and held at gunpoint by Marialew, who demanded to see what[2] he[5] had hidden aboard their ship. When he did so, however, the spacer revealed to the surprised stormtrooper that they were familiar with the carnivores, having encountered them before during prior shipments. Marialew then instructed FN-2187 to bring the newly brought creatures to a place where a population of both the Ilum fungi and the winged carnivores was already residing on the moon. Before the duo then departed from the garbage moon, Marialew briefly conversed with FN-2187 about him fitting in with the First Order.[2]
