- "Another planet in the Trilon sector, Gannaria sees far fewer visitors than Batuu. Those who do are most likely engaging in the illegal spice trade that has existed on the planet for hundreds of years."
- ―Eloc Throno, Traveler's Guide to Batuu
Gannaria was a terrestrial planet[2] located in the Gannaria system of[3] the Trilon sector,[2] a part of the Outer Rim Territories. Situated in grid square H-15 of the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] it was linked by hyperspace routes to the Batuu and Zaddja systems[2] and shared its name with the route known as the Gannarian Run.[4]
For centuries, Gannaria hosted trade in illegal spice. Smugglers traveling illegally to and from the planet found the Black Spire Outpost on the nearby world Batuu, which was visited by off-worlders much more frequently than Gannaria, to be a convenient stop on their trips.[2] The human First Order stormtrooper HF-3311,[4] who was born in 10 ABY,[5] hailed from Gannaria.[4] The historian Eloc Throno eventually included a brief mention of Gannaria in his book Traveler's Guide to Batuu,[2] which was published in 34 ABY.[6]
Behind the scenes
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary was the first to establish Gannaria as a distinct celestial body in the current Star Wars canon.
Gannaria was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon on a galactic map in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game, a 2016 Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying boxed set.[1] The 2019 reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo subsequently first described it as a distinct celestial body.[4]
The Gannaria system was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry.[7] The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic authored by Hidalgo and released on StarWars.com[8] over the span of the 2009[9]–2010[10] second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series,[9] featured the first appearance of the star system.[8]

- ↑ Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu establishes that at the time of the book's setting the Resistance was based on Batuu. Star Wars: Timelines dates both the establishment of the Batuu Resistance base and its eventual relocation to Ajan Kloss to 34 ABY. Therefore, the in-universe guide must have been authored that year.
