The Gannaria system was located in the Trilon sector, a part of the Outer Rim Territories.[1] It was notable for the production of spice[2] and was the origin point of the Gannarian narco-spice variant.[3][4]

The area of space surrounding the system was explored between 1000 BBY and 25 BBY.[2] Shortly after the acquisition of the planet Ukio by the Commerce Guild during the Clone Wars[5] of 22 BBY19 BBY,[2] the Gannaria system was featured on a galactic map displayed on a viewscreen at a facility run by Passel Argente, the Magistrate[5] of the Corporate Alliance.[6]

The Human smuggler Han Solo visited the Gannaria system on a mission for a member of the Hutt species at some point between 14 BBY and 0 BBY. The population of the system around 25 ABY numbered less than one million.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Gannaria system was first mentioned in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which placed it in grid square H-15.[2] The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released on StarWars.com[5] over the span of the 2009[7]2010[8] second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series,[7] featured the first appearance of the system.[5]

The Essential Atlas and Galactic Cartography: Official Discussion (post by jasonfry) on the Jedi Council Forums' Literature board (December 11, 2007): "I wouldn't get your hopes up re alien homeworlds, beyond simple stuff like the Planetnamian species getting a Planetnamia on the map or things Dan and I can account for with a relatively quick reference." (backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for the Gannarian narco-spice in relation to the Gannaria system.
