- "Yes, I am going to request a transfer. I heard from an arfive unit onboard the Rebel Fleet that they're looking for protocol droids at the Alliance Records Office on Fusai. Translations and datawork are a little bit more my speed. No one ever had their arms pulled off while record keeping."
"[R2-D2 asks about joining C-3PO]"
"No, you can't come. They have no openings for mop buckets." - ―C-3PO and R2-D2
Fusai was a terrestrial astronomical object[2] located in the Fusai system within the Fusai sector, a subsector of the Zuma sector, in the Outer Rim. It was situated in grid square H-16 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] The Rebel Alliance operated a records office on Fusai during its war against the Galactic Empire.[2]
By the time of an attack at the Alliance's[2] Outer Rim[3] Sunspot Prison[2] in 0 ABY,[4] the rebel protocol droid C-3PO had heard from a rebel R5 astromech droid unit that the office on Fusai was looking for protocol droid staff. After the siege, C-3PO told the astromech R2-D2 that[2] he[4] intended to request a transfer to work at the records office, as he considered the work there more suitable and safer. R2-D2 then asked if[2] he[3] could accompany C-3PO, which the protocol responded to by stating he could not as there were no openings for astromechs at the office.[2]
Behind the scenes
Star Wars 19 marked the first mention of Fusai in the current Star Wars canon.
Fusai was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the nineteenth issue of the 2015 comic series Star Wars. The issue was written by Jason Aaron and published by Marvel Comics[2] on May 25, 2016.[5]
In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet[6] Fusai first appeared, albeit unidentified, as the location where[7] the BRT supercomputer[8] Mistress Mnemos operated in the comic story "Gambler's World." The story was written and illustrated by Russ Manning[7] and published between March 12 and September 8, 1979[9] as part of the daily Star Wars comic strip distributed by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate to major American and Canadian newspapers from 1979 to 1984.[10] The 2006 reference book The New Essential Guide to Droids written by Daniel Wallace later identified the location where Mnemos was installed as Fusai.[8]
