Violin (talk - history - links - logs - delete - protect)
Nothing in-universe identifies this instrument. Because it happens to sound like an OOU violin while Kleya is scanning radio channels does not even remotely mean the violin is an IU instrument. - JMAS

Hey, it's me! 13:43, 3 July 2025 (UTC) - I agree with JMAS. While I prefer to err on the side of content inclusion, there is a difference between subtitles and closed captioning. I agree that these are closed captions and not subtitles (the musical icon is the key here). Unlike subtitles which generally go through a production review, the latter is a technology accessibility feature that may be added by the service itself. The fact that they're present does not make them a canonically-reviewed piece of information, so it shouldn't be assumed there was a production intent to canonize violins. We also don't know if it went through any sort of review at all or if it was even generated by a person. Disney does use automated AI captioning in its products and services. - Brandon Rhea(talk)(he/him/his) 01:13, 5 July 2025 (UTC)

- And furthermore if that's the only mention of violin, you can't even assume it's a musical instrument; it could just as easily be a genre ("distorted jazz music playing"), a culture/nationality etc ("distorted German music playing"). Xd1358 (Talk) 21:02, 5 July 2025 (UTC)

- The subtitles specifically identify it as a violin. Otherwise I would not have created the page. SorcererSupreme21 (talk) 17:59, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

- Probably ideal to actually cite the subtitles in the future, upon making the page, to avoid the confusion.—spookywillowwtalk 19:42, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

- I checked and the subtitles do say "distorted violin music playing" CometSmudge (talk) 16:33, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
Screenshot of the close captions
- I honestly don't feel like that should be considered IU. If the subtitles are identifying something visibly seen like a creature or speeder or piece of equipment, sure. But essentially the subtitles are there to let someone who is deaf or hard of hearing know what the music sounds like and not intended to identify the instrument IU. - JMAS

- For us to use subtitles for information, we have to take all or nothing. Imo. NBDani

- There is a difference between subtitles and [CC] Close Captions. Only select languages have both subtitles and CC. English ONLY has CC opion. But if you look at the Spanish, which has both normal subtitle option and CC option, the normal subtitle option has NOTHING on that exact same screen. It disappears. It is only show on the CC. - JMAS

- Further evidence that this is not to be taken as naming an IU object. On D+, in English, they are not straight subtitles. They are Close Captioned for the hearing impaired. This screenshot clearly shows that it is just so that someone who cannot hear will know what the music sounds like in real life terms. If they put "distorted mandoviol or Hapan lute music playing" then they would have no idea what it actually sounded like. - JMAS
