Slave Leia costume (talk - history - links - logs - delete - protect)

Slave Leia costume has been around since 2007, but it has many problems that include:

• Multiple factual errors which are magnified thanks to reputable sources citing us for their information. For instance, the costume wasn't created because of anything Carrie Fisher said and it wasn't made of metal.
• Encyclopedic tone and point-of-view issues; until I began tackling it in April (before giving up), it had a problem of dwelling on Carrie Fisher's body, emphasizing sexual fetishes, writing about female cosplayers as primarily interested in male attention while men were unaware women could like Star Wars... basically, it seemed to exist for objectification, not for the costume itself in-universe.
• We don't have other articles dedicated to out-of-universe views of costumes in the Star Wars culture category, and this article mixes IU and OOU.

I haven't listed deleting the article as an option, but instead making it a redirect to the new canon article Dancing-girl costume. I created it with assistance from Minnabird. It covers the in-universe costume, and provides a behind the scenes that IMHO is more thoroughly fact-checked and provides more relevant information about how it was created and filmed.

The tone and history of this article are gross, and any worthwhile information is better off being moved to the new article, which is of much higher quality and actually presents things from an IU point of view. 28. I was actually kind of surprised only an OOU article for the outfit existed rather than an IU one, especially considering multiple characters in SW have worn it so it's not exclusive to Leia. Even if you were to argue for the "pop culture significance" as a reason to keep the current page, that would be like creating an OOU page for Vader's suit, which would also be entirely unnecessary.      • There isn't a Legends version yet simply because it needs further research to determine the most formal name, but a stub can be created once that's sorted. Immi Thrax (talk) 15:15, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
