Something that came up in Discord recently is that, with the shift to requiring the name in {{1stID}}, {{WP}} is an outlier to how we typically treat templates of that nature. The Layout Guide's External Links section curiously mandates that it must be used without parameters unless the pagenames are different, which can lead to inaccuracy after pagemoves and is generally just inconsistent with our other templates that don't do default text/link values. Also, the LG text is out of date with the rise of my automatic HideParenthetical module, so it's due for an update anyways.
tl:dr, update the Wikipedia/IMDB bullet in the External Links section of the Layout Guide to this:
- Wikipedia articles and IMDb pages should be linked with
{{WP|Wikipedia article name}}for Wikipedia and{{IMDb|name/xxxxx}}or{{IMDb|title/xxxxx}}for IMDb.

- I prefer consistency and I believe users most often don't read documentation but copy-paste live examples. If a new user sees a WP with the parameter filled in, they're going to assume it should always be filled in, and fill it as such.NBDani

- I like the slight redundancy so I don't have to worry about us moving a page and breaking the template. Master Fredcerique

Oppose
- I fail to see the issue here. Articles moves from Wikipedia will still impact us the same way, and page move from our side are statistically inconsequential, and only will be an issue if someone forgot to do them... and even this forgetfulness will be corrected as soon as someone notice it. Speaking of consistency, using {{WP}} without the article name is also more consistent with the {{IMDb}} formatting, since it also don't need to contain the article name as a parameter (addendum: I fully understand that this parameter for WP is both a titling and linking parameter, but I still think this is more consistent and shorter that way), both being formatted that way to make them more easy to use, which I psuhed forward during the rewrite of that policy from 2023. - The wording of the proposal should be tweaked that only the *first sentence* of that bullet point be updated. The John Glover example should still remain. Imperators II(Talk) 20:04, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
