The result of the debate was Support proposal.
Currently, per the rules on Wookieepedia:Review board membership nominations, nominations for new board members must be made by a current member of the relevant review board. As we've moved toward allowing self-nominations for basically every other leadership role on the wiki, I think it's time to allow the same for review boards. The boards should not be insular cliques that pick and choose who gets to be a member, and though the community votes on new members, the fact that they must be nominated by review board members means existing member still hold that power. Historically, this has been abused, and though I have full confidence in the current members of the board, I want to make sure that is never again a possibility.
I'm proposing the rules be changed to the following:
- You may nominate another Wookieepedian or nominate yourself. (If nominating another user, please ensure they accept the nomination first.)
- If not nominated by a member of the review board for which they are being nominated, the nominee must have been signed up on the recruitment page for at least one month prior to the nomination.
- Support votes must have a 2/3rds supermajority for the request to be accepted.
- At least ten eligible Wookieepedians must contribute a vote.
- Self-votes will not be counted in the vote totals.
The first is just copy-paste from the RFUR rules. The second rule is to ensure that the boards have had adequate time to reach out and discuss feedback with the nominee (we just need to make the effort to do so, but us failing to do so should not result in a nominee sitting in limbo). Ultimately, the purpose of this is to allow the community to make the decision of who is on the boards while still allowing for the boards to have influence in the process by way of giving the boards a month to develop the prospective member and give them feedback. It also prevents the boards from becoming controlled cliques like they were before, when certain members would just refuse to nominate people they didn't like to the boards and harass board members who wanted to nominate them. The last three requirements are the same as existing.
Due to this change, the recruitment page would also need to be changed from the following:
- "Once a majority of current board members are satisfied that you're ready to join their ranks, a member of the relevant board will nominate you for membership on the review board membership nominations page where the community will be able to vote on your admittance."
to this:
- "Often, once a majority of current board members are satisfied that you're ready to join their ranks, a member of the relevant board will nominate you for membership on the review board membership nominations page where the community will be able to vote on your admittance. Alternatively, after a month has passed since signing the recruitment page, you may nominate yourself, or another user may nominate you."

- It's time ya'll, the end of this era. It's extremely important that any Wookieepedian can seek a community vote. That doesn't mean every review board nomination will pass, but that decision should absolutely be the wider community's and not just an internal board decision.—spookywillowwtalk 02:49, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- To anybody who wasn't there in the old days, boards being exclusively internal in member admission votes was one of the tools Tope used to maintain his power over the community, so bringing this fully public to the point anyone can nominate themselves is very much a good thing. - Per spooky and Fan, no more high school clubs, it's time for full community consensuses. It's also okay for nominations to fail, discussion is good! It promotes a healthier community. UberSoldat93
