Long ago, the Knowledge Bank served an important purpose, allowing users to ask questions about the Star Wars canon, separate from the Wookieepedia-related SH and article-focused talk pages. However, in recent years, the KB has fallen into disuse. Looking at the archive, we had a mere 24 KB questions in 2020, compared to 110 in 2015 and 253 in 2011. We're now on the fourth month of 2021, and we've only received a single question.

As such, I believe we should retire the Knowledge Bank in favour of two other resources. First, Discord. We have #canon and #legends for general questions about Star Wars, as well as #help for new editors with such questions. Additionally, Discussions has become the primary ground for such questions. A quick browse of Discussions reveals a lot of "What happened to so and so," "Who is more powerful," and "What does this mean" threads. So, it appears Discussions has become the main way people are probing Wookieepedia for such questions about canon, not the KB.

As such, I believe we really have no reason to continue using the Knowledge Bank. So, I propose that we officially archive and retire the Knowledge Bank and all open subpages of it, except for the Galaxy's Edge background verification thread. I've discussed this with Fred and we agree it'd be best to rename that to "Forum:Galaxy's Edge background verification thread." Additionally, references to the Knowledge Bank across the site should be removed, such as the ones in {{Talkheader}}, {{Forumtop}}, {{Sticky}}, Wookieepedia:What Wookieepedia is not, and Wookieepedia:Glossary. Additionally, we can delete the various KB-related templates, such as {{Kbtop}}, {{Kbtop/preload}}, and {{KBarchive}}.

  17. I've observed this change in activity myself while moderating Discussions, and if this vote passes, I'll be sure to remind users there of our responsibility to help everyone seeking answers. We could even start a way to categorize question posts, perhaps with a permanent thread.
