Following the discussion in this Senate Hall thread, I would like to officially put my proposal regarding the use of citation templates to a vote. In short, I'm proposing to limit the use of the optional parameters "author," "date," and "quote" to citation purposes in order to achieve consistency and a less cluttered look in our articles, namely in Appearances, Sources, and External links sections. As mentioned in the SH thread, you can compare the two versions (with and without using these parameters) of the same Sources list here.

You can respectively find the current and proposed sections of Wookieepedia:Sourcing#Citation templates below. As you can see, aside from introducing a new bullet point to codify this change, I am also proposing to update an existing item for self-explanatory reasons. The changes are written in bold.

Current version:

  • Available citation templates must be used in Appearances, Sources, and Notes and references whenever applicable, with the exception of {{CSWECite}}, as noted below

Proposal:

  • Available citation templates must be used in Appearances, Sources, Notes and references, External links, and index pages whenever applicable, with the exception of {{CSWECite}}, as noted below
  • The optional parameters "author," "date," and "quote" may only be used in Notes and references in an article.
