Double trouble! There's another vote I just kicked off as well if you didn't yet see it. This one is for the people I occasionally see joining Wookieepedia's Discord server whom I recognize from the site, but who don't yet meet the activity requirements for access to every channel. For a few reasons, I think it might be nice for us to be able to differentiate these newer members of Wookieepedia from members of the general public on the server, through what I'll call "partial verification."

Policy change
Basically, any Wookieepedia user with a registered Fandom account and fewer than the required edits or posts could still use the existing "!wiki verify" bot command to at least verify their username and get a server role color other than the default white (Discord has two default gray options I think might be nice).
This "Verified" role wouldn't include any more permissions than a public Discord user would have on the server, but it would create other advantages for our community accessibility-wise.
- It would allow more people to use the "!wiki verify" command without getting stopped by the edit/post bar, so more people could see how the command is run properly. Once they reach 50 edits or 200 posts, then they can simply repeat the command for the full-access "Wookieepedians" role.
- It would further incentivize people to verify themselves and make it easier for more experienced editors to recognize and reach out to them for editing support on the server. The server was just pruned of inactive roleless members, so this motion will also protect actual Wookieepedians from future prunings regardless of their edit or post count.
- Additionally, admins could better see who's an editor or not and manually verify anyone they later notice has met the edit/post count requirement for full verification.
- It would lower the apparent separation of skill level between a member of the public and someone with 50 logged edits. There are people who participate on our server in between these categories, and they are Wookieepedians regardless of the numbers logged on their accounts.
This changes absolutely nothing about who accesses what on the server, just gives a nice baseline label of recognition for all registered users of Wookieepedia there, especially those who might like more of a helping hand in contributing to the site and joining the full server.
Getting verified (current version)
To access channels outside the lobby, you must be verified by an administrator. To be eligible for verification, you need a registered Fandom account with over 50 edits on Wookieepedia or 200 posts on its Discussions forum. You can check your personal edit count here and your post count here on your profile.
- Join the server.
- Check your edit count here or post count here: Only Wookieepedians with at least 50 edits or 200 posts are eligible for verification.
No middle passages here will be changed.
- If you used method 1: Send
!wiki verify <username>(replace<username>with your Wookieepedia username) in #request-verification. You will be automatically verified if you have at least 50 edits on the wiki or 200 posts on the forum.
- If you used method 1: Send
No middle passages here will be changed.
Once verified, you will be granted the "wookieepedians" role and your Discord nickname will be changed to match your Fandom account name. You will also gain access to the rest of the server.
Getting verified (proposed revision)
To access channels outside the lobby, you must be verified by an administrator. To be eligible for verification, you need a registered Fandom account with over 50 edits on Wookieepedia or 200 posts on its Discussions forum. You can check your personal edit count here and your post count here on your profile. If you have a registered Fandom account but do not yet meet either the edit or post requirements, you may still follow the steps for verification to identify yourself as a Fandom user on the server.
- Join the server.
- Check your edit count here or post count here: Only Wookieepedians with at least 50 edits or 200 posts are eligible for full server access, but any Wookieepedian may still verify their identity on the server before meeting either requirement.
No middle passages here are changed.
- If you used method 1: Send
!wiki verify <username>(replace<username>with your Wookieepedia username) in #request-verification. You will be automatically verified if you have a Fandom account and granted full server access if you have at least 50 edits on the wiki or 200 posts on the forum.
- If you used method 1: Send
No middle passages here are changed.
Once verified, you will be granted the "Verified" role and your Discord server nickname will be changed to match your Fandom account name. If you have at least 50 edits or 200 posts, you will also be granted the "Wookieepedians" role and gain access to the rest of the server; otherwise, you may simply repeat the verification steps once you do meet either requirement for full access.

- Makes keeping track of actual users easier too (so that we can be more selective when pruning the server and to make sure users are who they claim to be, if they've chosen not to be in the full server). OOM 224 (he/him) 21:31, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

- I'd like to call attention to the message I wrote when Wookieepedia's IRC channel was shut down and reiterate that offsite modes of communication always risk creating barriers to members of our community. I understand why the existing verification rules for full server access are in place and have no interest in changing them, but this is still a way to show newer Wookieepedians (and ourselves—it's a mental barrier in this case) that they're part of the community too. - I think it's also worth bringing up that our verification system still appears to account for the 4-digit ID codes that Discord is phasing out (if they haven't fully phased them out already; I'm not sure). The verification bot and {{User discord}} should be tweaked accordingly. - Thannus (DFaceG) (he/him) (talk) 19:00, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- I saw you try to verify yourself earlier on the server upon rejoining, and it only failed because you didn't put your new tag in the Discord field of your Fandom bio. The bot only checks for a match between that field and your actual Discord username, regardless of whether you're on the old or new Discord format. Jedi Sarith LeKit (talk) 19:06, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
