Hello, so. Interactive Maps have been in existence for quite some time, but we've never codified them. They can be browsed here, and are accessible in Wookieepedia's top navigation as "Interactive Maps" in the "Explore" part of the navigation (a section of the navigation we can't alter). All other maps currently in this section are more or less based on canon information, just with markers placed with links and such on top.
Anyway, due to maps not being codified in any policy, users can still technically make fanon content for personal use here. I personally am strongly against this practice for fanon/fan fiction content, because we're Wookieepedia. When people look at Interactive Maps, accessible from the top navigation, they're usually going to assume they're canon. Unlike workbenches, where people can have their fan content if they want, these (more or less) look like we're presenting them as factual content.
I think whether or not we use Interactive Maps and the rules for what content we allow on them (like using official backdrops only, or etc.) is a much larger debate and that'll more than likely be brought to SH shortly. But we are presented with a somewhat immediate issue of having un-CSDable personal fan content in Maps, which would be more suited for the Fanon Wiki. Maps aren't part of the main or user namespaces technically, so it's a bit of a void space in which there's no rules.
In this CT, I'm proposing that we disallow fanon content in all Interactive Maps as a stopgap. In this case, Support would be to disallow fan content and Oppose would be to retain fan content. If passed, this would allow the removal of fan content from maps as part of the decision, and then if the map was entirely fan content, then it would fall under WP:FANON and this CT to allow for it's deletion under the deletion's policy first clause, which does allow for deletion of fanon, albeit not for the Map namespace specifically.—spookywillowwtalk 21:27, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

- Just for the record, I'm going to repeat what I said on Discord: I would like to see this put in an actual policy at some point, it is way easier to actually refer to a point of policy than to a CT (SWTOR have been a pain on this regards and I aim to correct this in the future). But... we don't have a current policy on map usage at the moment, so I'm just going to have to be patient. NanoLuukeCloning Facility 21:39, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Entirely agree and want to repeat what was said in the Discord (for logging record) that this will be headed to SH shortly. It was just important to have some sort of stopgap or we'd be stuck with fanon sitting around in the meanwhile, and policy making from scratch can take a lot of time.—spookywillowwtalk 22:05, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Wouldn't this policy section 4.1 basically cover this? A map like we are referring to is for personal use and not Wookieepedia. We aren't a hosting site. <-Omicron(Leave a message at the BEEP!) 21:51, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
