This proposal is to rename the Bibliography section of out-of-universe articles and revise that portion of the Layout Guide/Out-of-universe, currently defined as "a bulleted list of all officially-licensed source material to mention the real-world article subject."
Let's provide some historic context on this section. The Layout Guide/Out-of-universe was established by a Mofference vote on November 11, 2012, including the Bibliography section, following a proposal from Menkooro. The section was then rewritten as the result of one of the last Mofferences on November 7, 2020.
We use the term "Bibliography" in a unique manner inconsistent with the way it is used by the publishing world. It most often means one of the following:
- In academic or journalistic works, it may mean the author's "complete list of books/printed works/written works consulted," or the author's "complete list of books/printed works/written works cited." (Some less detail-oriented writers put everything from films to video games to web articles in their Bibliography...) Some authors don't provide either version of a Bibliography section, only bibliographic notes along the way as footnotes or endnotes. And others provide a Bibliography section and use bibliographic notes to reference specific pages.
- The "list of everything cited" meaning falls under what we call "Notes and references".
- In various type of works ranging from fiction to non-fiction, it means a "list of books/printed works/written works written by this author".
- This falls under our current heading "Published works".
In addition to this initial inconsistency where our articles have two kinds of bibliographies without calling either of them a bibliography, and a section called a bibliography that doesn't use an established meaning of the word, there is also the matter of internal inconsistency between the current naming of the headings "Filmography", "Discography", and then "Published works" is the odd one that doesn't match.

To fix both issues, I suggest that:
- The current "Bibliography" section be renamed "Sources", allowing some consistency with non-OOU articles. While this wouldn't perfectly align with its meaning on IU articles, it's still the best solution.
- The current "Published works" section be renamed "Bibliography", allowing some consistency with all headings using the suffix -graphy (filmo-, disco-, biblio-, and potentially gameo-) and using an established meaning of the word.
In effect, all (7) instances of "Bibliography" in the Layout_Guide/Out-of-universe will be changed to "Sources" if part 1 passes, while "Published works" on the same page will be changed to "Bibliography" if part 2 passes.
Vote 1 ("Bibliography" to "Sources")

- I would argue that it actually does align with IU articles, in that Sources is a list of (non-narrative) works that mention the subject. Imperators II(Talk) 15:37, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

- Makes sense to me. "Bibliography" always seemed like an odd choice of a word for the section's header. SorcererSupreme21 (talk) 19:28, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

- I would like to thanks Immi Thrax, who once again assisted with drafting this proposal, and of course everyone else who shared their thoughts on the matter. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 15:07, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Once this vote is behind us, and the terminology issue as been resolved, we'll be able to move on to others CT. Coming Soon™, to a wiki near you. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 15:07, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Would this affect OOU articles covering Star Wars works and content? SorcererSupreme21 (talk) 10:32, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, since "Bibliography" is a section commun to all OOU articles. So we're talking (real-world) People, Media, Organization, etc. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 14:14, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
