Hopefully this should be a fairly uncontroversial CT since it's codifying something that we already do in practice, but after discussion of an objection for Minos Cluster on the latest EduCorps meeting page me, Imperators, and Shay have realised that you could interpret the current new canon subjects section of the notability policy to apply Legends astronomical locations to any depiction of a canon location.
For example, with an image of Tatooine in a New Hope you could argue that the space you are seeing around Tatooine was identified as the Arkanis sector in Legends and so by this policy it should be assumed to be the Arkanis sector in canon without needing an additional source to state that. This was never the intention of this section of the policy and in practice I don't think this has ever been done, but just to avoid any confusion in future I think it's worth clarifying by adding the following sentence to the end of the section:
- This does not apply to appearances of sectors or galactic regions such as the Outer Rim Territories.

- Anaxes is very clear and recent proof that the space around an astronomical object cannot be assumed to be the same as in Legends. MasterFred

- I genuinely had no idea the Minos Cluster was in ESB, and am a bit confused it's not in the Appearances of the Legends article. Cade

Discussion
I'm not sure I understand. Is your reasoning that, without this change, we could interpret a mention of Delaya to imply that it is necessarily another planet in the Alderaan system (and sector and Core Worlds...), since it was so in Delaya/Legends? And would this change remove that possible interpretation? -- YakovChaimTzvi (he/him/his) (talk) 20:40, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- Not quite. This has more to with locations that appear visually in Canon. For example, the opening shot of Tatooine in ANH. Under the policy as is, we would be able to say that that shot depicts Canon Arkanis sector and Canon Outer Rim Territories—like Ayre said above, without any Canon source needing to say that—just because Legends sources said so. Or the space shot of Naboo from TPM - Canon Chommell sector, Canon Mid Rim, just because it said so in Legends. Or this new thing, the ESB setting where Luke gets his new hand being the Minos Cluster just because Legends said it was the Minos Cluster. That sort of thing was completely not the intention of this policy section when Ayre authored it, and this is a measure to try and prevent that from leading to absurd extremes such as the ones listed here.
