"Flitterpods? I didn't know they lived around here. Hi there, little one."
―Lys Solay, to the flitterpods — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[2]

Flitterpods were striped, purple fish with fins that could be found in the river of the forest planet Tenoo. Around 233 BBY, the Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay traveled down the river and noticed the creatures, with the latter becoming distracted by them and almost crashing her speeder. In other instances, a flitterpod took the Jedi youngling Nubs' lightsaber, and the droid RJ-83 encountered a pair of the fish while in Tenoo's river. In 232 BBY, the Jedi younglings Linh, Nubs, and Brightstar saw several flitterpods jumping out of the water.

Flitterpods were fish[1] found in the river of the forest[2] planet[3] Tenoo. They had black eyes, purple skin with stripes, a large pink-purple dorsal fin on their backs, and a thrice-forked tail. Flitterpods also had barbels, two pink-purple pectoral fins, and narrow snouts with nostrils at their base.[2] The fish could make chittering sounds.[4]

History

"Lys! Watch out!"
"Huh?"
―Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay, after the latter was distracted by flitterpods — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[2]

Around 233 BBY,[5] the Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay traveled down Tenoo's river on speeders alongside a group of flitterpods. Solay, who had heard of the creatures but was unaware they lived in the area, became distracted while observing them flit in and out of the water, and[2] she[3] narrowly avoided crashing into a tree root thanks to a warning from Brightstar.[2] Later around the same year,[5] Brightstar and Jedi Padawan Bell Zettifar passed by some flitterpods swimming in a stream within one of Tenoo's forests.[6]

A flitterpod took Nubs's lightsaber and swam down a waterfall.

A flitterpod took Nubs's lightsaber and swam down a waterfall.

Also around that time,[7] the Jedi youngling Nubs tripped and flung his lightsaber onto a rock within Tenoo's river. When he tried to retrieve it using the Force, a flitterpod leaped out of the water and took the weapon in its mouth, chittering happily. Nubs called out in alarm and chased the flitterpod as it swam down the river and over a waterfall before eventually swinging over to the creature using a vine to take his lightsaber back.[4] On another occasion, the RJ unit droid RJ-83 dropped a starship tool into the river. When[8] he[3] dove into the river to retrieve it, a pair of flitterpods bounced him between them as the tool sunk deeper. Eventually, RJ-83 managed to retrieve the tool and bring it to the surface, only to drop it in the water again almost immediately afterward.[8]

In 232 BBY,[9] the Jedi younglings Linh, Nubs, and Brightstar traversed through the Tenoo tree forest. On their way to the site where the barelia flower on Tenoo was expected to bloom, they passed by a waterfall where several flitterpods were chittering happily as they leaped out of the water.[10]

Behind the scenes

Flitterpods first appeared, and were identified, in "Get Well Nubs," the first part of the third episode of the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures's first season.[2] The episode was released on May 4, 2023.[11] Prior to the episode's release, the creatures were included, albeit unnamed, in a trailer for the series released on April 10.[12]
