First Order snowtrooper gear was armor used by First Order snowtroopers.

Description

First Order snowtrooper gear,[1] also known simply as snowtrooper armor,[2] was an advancement of the Imperial[3] predecessor utilized by Imperial cold weather assault troopers, also known as snowtroopers.[4]

The armor featured fewer plates than standard First Order stormtrooper armor to allow increased movement in difficult terrain. Snowtroopers wore a dense, heat-retaining body glove with a wind- and water-resistance fabric overtop that insulated the suit. The troopers wore a personal environment unit on their back that monitored and regulated their body temperature. Their betaplast helmets were featured a polarized slit visor to lower glare and two breather tank inlets. Their chest plates were made of a betaplast composite and coated with an icephobic to prevent front buildup. The front of their chest plate featured an insignia for the trooper's unit and controls for the suit heater. Their belt carried two utility pouches and featured an insulated kama. Their insulated gloves were equipped with adjustable heating units. They wore ice boots and their greaves had adjustable straps.[3]

History

Sometime between 26 ABY and 34 ABY,[5] the First Order conquered the icey planet Hays Minor and employed Snowtroopers,[6] equipped with their standard snowtrooper armor.[7] Because of the surface glare on the planet Crait, First Order snowtroopers were deployed in the Battle of Crait, utilizing their anti-glare slit visors. The heating units within their gear was deactivated for the battle.[3]

Behind the scenes

The armor was first introduced in a LEGO set[8] and a Hasbro action figure,[9] which both released September 4, 2015.[10][11] First Order Snowtrooper gear was added to the EA Capital Games video game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes[12]—originally debuted November 24, 2015[13]—as part of the event to unlock Galactic Legend Rey,[12] which was added March 25, 2020.[14]
