During the Republic Era, Maranda was a criminal who came into possession of six pounds of synthetic bacta. Looking to sell it, they traveled to the Mid Rim planet Kijimi where they stored the bacta in an old safehouse previously used by their associate, the smuggler Jet Kordo, and Kordo's partner, Vipsha. While at the safehouse they sent a transmission to Vipsha in which they offered a deal on the bacta. Maranda later received a reply from Vipsha which both asked how Maranda got the signal to contact them and advised Maranda to just dump the bacta; stating that recent events that led the Ashiga Clan, a local crime syndicate, to shaking up Vipsha's clients and leaving Kijimi off the table.[1]
Maranda responded by sending a transmission back to Vipsha, in which they stated Kordo gave them the signal and went on to express their disappointment in Vipsha's fear of the Ashiga. The Ashiga, however, later grabbed Maranda, leaving the bacta safely stored at the safehouse. After learning of Maranda's fate, Vipsha sent a transmission to Kordo to inform him of what occurred and of the existence of bacta, which Vipsha demanded a finder's fee if Kordo ended up selling the bacta. Copies of the transmissions to and from Vipsha were captured by equipment that remained in orbit above Kijimi through the end of the Galactic Republic and into reign of the Republic's successor, the Galactic Empire.[1]
In 3 ABY,[2] the four transmissions were discovered by the scoundrel Kay Vess and later[1] that same year, Vess's companion, a BX-series droid commando named ND-5, was able to use the transmission along with several other Clone Wars–era transmissions to track down a Separatist base on the Outer Rim jungle planet of Akiva.[1]
Behind the scenes
Maranda's voice appeared in four collectible transmissions in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The four collectible transmissions, titled "Maranda's Mistake 01" through 04 were part of the "Separatist Transmissions" expert intel quest, which eventually points the player to MT-7, one of nine Experts whom the player can meet and complete quests for in order to gain various abilities.[1]
