The Gloam monsters were undead members of the Katikoot species that had been taken over by the Miner's curse, a disease caused by living minerals found on the planet Gloam. The monsters were depicted in Katikoot legend, including being pictured in tapestries hung on the walls of the Ancient city on the planet.[1] Sometime by 382 BBY,[2] the caverns and tunnels underneath the ancient city were reopened for mining a special fuel after the Gloam mines ran dry. This accidentally unleashed many dormant Gloam monsters upon the planet.[1]
