- «I have a bad feeling about this.»
- ―Mee'ma, expressing his worry
Mee'ma was an alien musician at the Loi'e's Follies cabaret helping the Alliance to Restore the Republic. At some point between 1 ABY and 4 ABY, the cabaret held a performance for Imperial personnel where Loi'e—the head of the cabaret—planned to place trackers on the attendees. Mee'ma played music by waving his arms in a metal arch with multi-colored vibrating glass. During the performance, Loi'e spotted an Imperial officer who she assumed was the same officer who had kidnapped her son twenty years prior. In a panic, she fell as Mee'ma watched. After being saved by her daughter and crew member Hétis, she ordered the crew to leave through an escape tunnel to meet with their rebel contact Jon. Mee'ma, however, stayed with Loi'e and played music as she began another act with the intent to assassinate the officer.
At some point during the fight, Mee'ma joined Jon and the other crew members in Pipi, a makeshift shuttle created by Jon. Loi'e fought the officer, and having realized the officer was truly her son grown up, she went to the top of the cabaret and confronted him. After separating once more, Loi'e was fired upon by All Terrain Armored Transports. Seeing Pipi flying to the edge of the cabaret, Loi'e ran alongside the cabaret's dome and jumped to the shuttle, where she was reunited with Mee'ma and the other crew members.

Mee'ma created music by waving their arms in a spiraling metal arch
Mee'ma was a musician at the Loi'e's Follies cabaret on the astronomical object B-bel, helping the Alliance to Restore the Republic at some point[2] between 1 ABY and 4 ABY.[3] A performance was prepared for a crowd of Imperial attendees, where Loi'e—the owner of the cabaret—planned to place trackers on the Imperials. Shortly before the performance, Mee'ma was with the rest of the crew members above the stage.[2] He[1] sat upon a barrel smoking a pipe before Loi'e descended the stairs to the backstage. Loi'e asked if everyone was ready, and they all stopped what they were doing and stepped to the center of the room around a glowing disk in the floor.[2] The crew members intoned a mantra: "To the ones we lost,"[4] as the lights in the cabaret dimmed and a blue light replaced them.[2]
As the curtains rose, Mee'ma began to play his part—pipe still in his mouth—waving his arms inside a swirling arch made of twisting metal and vibrating, multi-colored glass, which created music. As Mee'ma continued to wave his arms, Loi'e descended from the backstage ceiling room, her gown flowing and slowing her fall as she began her part of the performance, placing the trackers on the stormtroopers and their gear. As the act continued, Loi'e spotted an Imperial officer sitting in a balcony—one she believed had kidnapped her son twenty years prior. In a panic, she fell from her high position as Mee'ma watched, staying still. Hétis—Loi'e's daughter and crew member—saved her from her fall and the curtains fell, ending the section of the performance.[2]
Rebellious rhythms
- "Take everyone and leave"
"What? But we did great. They thought it was part of the show."
"Go out through the escape tunnel. Now. Look out for Jon. You stay with him." - ―Loi'e ordering Hétis to leave with the crew members and meet with Jon
With a new plan to kill the officer set, Loi'e ordered Hétis to take the crew members and leave through an escape tunnel to meet their rebel contact Jon. Mee'ma did not join them, instead staying with Loi'e, who had now attached a wrist-mounted blade. Returning to the arch, Mee'ma removed the pipe from his mouth and expressed that he had a bad feeling about what was about to happen.[2] They[1] then once again waved their arms around to begin the music as Loi'e flew around the cabaret. Loi'e reached the balcony and realized the officer was not the same man who stole her son from her, but rather her son himself. Before she could react, she was thrown off the balcony by the officer's KX-series security droid. As Loi'e began to fight the officer and the now-aggressive stormtroopers, Mee'ma continued waving their arms, intensifying the music.[2]
Mee'ma and the rest of the crew members aboard Pipi
After more fighting, Hétis returned to the stage and fought the stormtroopers with Loi'e. At some point during this, Mee'ma had left the stage, joining Jon, who had recently arrived at the cabaret with his makeshift shuttle, Pipi. Loi'e went to the top of the cabaret, pulling the officer with her to attempt to speak to him. After successfully confronting him and separating once more, Loi'e was fired upon by All Terrain Armored Transports. Seeing Pipi flying to the edge of the cabaret, Loi'e ran alongside the cabaret's dome and jumped to the shuttle, reuniting with Mee'ma and the other crew members. The shuttle then flew away from the cabaret and jumped into hyperspace.[2]
Personality and traits
Mee'ma was a small alien[1] with orange, brown, and tan skin and pink eyes. They had a large mouth and thin tan fingers with orange fingertips. When Loi'e told the other crew members to leave and meet with Jon, he stayed with her—though still expressed their bad feeling about the situation.[2]
Skills and abilities
Mee'ma created music by waving their hands and arms around the multicolored arch. He was also capable of speaking both Galactic Basic Standard and another language.[2]
Equipment
Mee'ma wore a loose dark green robe with a white head scarf that connected to a flat headpiece on top of their head. He also used a brown and purple-colored pipe[2] that released purple smoke.[5]
Behind the scenes
Concept art of Mee'ma in the spiraling metal arch
Mee'ma appeared in "The Spy Dancer," a non-canon short film released as part of the second volume of the Star Wars: Visions series. The animated short, produced by Studio La Cachette, was released on Disney+[2] on May 4, 2023.[6] Mee'ma was voiced by Barbara Weber-Scaff, who also provided additional voices for the short. While not stated in the short, Mee'ma's name was provided in the episode's credits.[2] Concept art was created for Mee'ma performing in the metal arch[5] and in a lineup featuring other characters from the short.[7]
The score for "The Spy Dancer" was completed before the final animation. This allowed for actions and moments in the short—including Mee'ma's movements—to be animated to specific musical queues and motifs.[5]
