"When the Jedi Order was founded, I, Cala Brin, said we should devote ourselves to justice. True justice cannot be driven by emotion. We Jedi can set our passions aside, and seek the truth without fear or favor."

Cala Brin was a Human female who served as a Jedi Master and founding member of the Jedi Order, pushing for the order to be devoted to true justice without emotion. The Master recorded a teaching hologram for future generations that was eventually lost to the order in the Tythonian Gnarls region of the planet Tython.

Twenty thousand years after Brin's time, the hologram was rediscovered by Jedi researchers but came under threat from an attack by Tython's native Flesh Raiders. Around 3643 BBY, the new Padawan of Jedi archaeologist Yuon Par was dispatched to recover Brin's hologram as part of his Jedi Trials, listening to the Masters wisdom before taking the recording back to Par.

Biography

"We are Jedi. Every decision we make may affect strangers millions of light-years away. That knowledge must guide your judgement."

Carl Brin recorded a teaching hologram that was left in a holoprojector in the Tythonian Gnarls.

Cala Brin was a Force-sensitive Human Female who was one of the founding members of the Jedi Order. Earning the rank of Jedi Master, Brin pushed for the new order to devote itself to justice based on truth rather then emotion. The Human eventually recorded a teaching hologram for future generations that was stored in a holoprojector on a stone bridge in the northeast portion of the Tythonian Gnarls region of the planet Tython, homeworld of the Jedi.[1]

The hologram was at some point lost to the Jedi, but after the order returned to Tython following the destruction of the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant[1] twenty thousand years later[3] in 3653 BBY,[4] Jedi researchers eventually uncovered Brin's hologram along with several other teaching holograms in the Gnarls region. Before the Jedi had a chance to fully study the holograms, the recordings were put at risk of destruction when Tython's native Flesh Raiders attacked the Jedi training grounds in the Gnarls.[1]

Around 3643 BBY,[5] Jedi archaeologist Yuon Par dispatched her new Padawan from the Masters' Retreat near the Gnarls to recover the teaching holograms, including Brin's, as the first part of[1] his[6] Jedi Trials. The Padawan discovered the holoprojector and examined it, triggering the hologram's activation protocols. Brin's hologram then shared its wisdom about justice in conversation with the Padawan. Once the activation protocol was complete, the Padawan recovered the holocron from the projector and brought it to Par in the Jedi Temple on Tython.[1]

Personality and traits

"Sorrow for the victim, or outrage at the crime, can blind us. To see clearly, such feelings must be put aside. It has served us well. We Jedi are renowned for our fairness, our honesty."

Cala Brin believed that the Jedi Order should be dedicated to true justice, setting aside passions and emotions such as sorrow for a victim or outrage at a crime so that they could seek the truth clearly without fear or favor. The Master believed that every action a Jedi took could effect strangers lightyears away and so this knowledge must guide them. Brin was confident these views had served the order well and had led them to have a reputation for fairness and honesty.[1] The human had light skin, graying brown hair, and purple eyes.[2]

Equipment

The hologram of Cala Brin depicted the Jedi Master as wearing a set of[1] brown[2] Jedi robes.[1]

The Old Republic — The Lost Suns 2 takes place ten years after the treaty, one week after the mission to Nar Shaddaa, and around the time of the SpecForce Incident. Since the mission and the incident are respectively part of Act I of the Jedi Knight and Republic Trooper's storylines, and the Trooper's Act I occurs concurrent to Act I of the Smuggler storyline, the general events of the Prologue and Act I for all classes can be assumed to occur in 3643 BBY.
