For other uses, see viol.

A double viol was a type of musical instrument. Axel Greylark, a student at Reena University, was proficient with it.[1] Around 396 BBY,[2] he had been expected to perform as part of the university's celebration of the Queen's Bloom Festival, an annual festival on the planet Reena that celebrated the blooming of plants across the planet after a season of torrential rain. However, Greylark faked catching malongo pox to avoid participating in the university's festivities.[1]

The double viol was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in "The Queen's Bloom," a short story written by Zoraida Córdova and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the double viol first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the 1994 novel Dark Apprentice, the second volume of The Jedi Academy Trilogy, written by Kevin J. Anderson.[3] It was first visually depicted and identified by name in the short story "Firestorm," also written by Anderson and published in the fifteenth issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal by West End Games in November 1997. The story's artwork was illustrated by Doug Shuler.[4]
