The Diamond Eyes was the fifth and final embellishment of the Kalidor Crescent, the highest honor endowed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic, granted only by the Alliance Chief of State or by the Supreme Commander of the Alliance Armed Forces for the greatest acts of heroism and gallantry against an overwhelming force. Those eligible for the final embellishment required a living military individual performing a sixth instance of such behavior, a nomination from a superior officer or a representative from the Alliance's civilian government, and to have been previously awarded the Bronze Cluster, the Silver Talons, the Silver Scimitar, and the Golden Wings embellishments for their Kalidor Crescent.[1]

The embellishment itself was a pair of small diamonds that were pinned to the ribbon on either side of head of the likened appearance of a kalidor in flight, an avian predator species from[1] the Core Worlds planet[2] Davnar II.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Diamond Eyes embellishment was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2016 Fantasy Flight Games roleplaying sourcebook Lead by Example.[1] The embellishment originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared simultaneously in Star Wars: X-Wing, a LucasArts computer game released in 1993 by Totally Games[3] and the accompanying companion book The Farlander Papers authored by Rusel DeMaria that was released for the game's Limited Edition version.[4]
