- "Have you heard anything concerning the Death Wind?"
"The spice trade corridor?"
"No, something that bears the same name. Something worse. Rumors of an execution squad." - ―Wullf Yularen and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker
The Death Wind Corridor connected Roon and Ryloth.
Description
- "We've had our suspicions of Mekedrix since he vanished. That the namesake "Death Wind" trade corridor passes by his homeworld of Roon only strengthens the connection."
- ―Wullf Yularen, to Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Death Wind Corridor,[1] or simply Death Wind, was a spice trade corridor[4] which passed within an intersecting portion of the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Slice regions.[2] The route connected the Roon system of the Abrion sector,[3] containing the astronomical object Roon,[1] and the Ryloth system of the Gaulus sector,[3] containing the planet Ryloth.[5] The Death Wind intersected the Corellian Run[1] super-hyperroute[6] at Ryloth. and the Triellus Trade Route hyperlane at Roon, passing through the Cloak of the Sith to get to the latter. The three routes together formed the Spice Triangle, a trade network that connected Roon, Ryloth, and the planet Tatooine. The Mumble's Turnaround, a hyperlane favored by smugglers, also linked with the Death Wind Corridor at both Ryloth and Roon.[1]
History
- "So I'm thinking once I purchase a fleet (maybe twenty HWK-290s, fifty YT-freighters, one hundred barges), I'll lock down trade along the Spice Triangle. All smuggling along the Death Wind Corridor will go through me, plus I'll collect fees from the most lucrative segments of the Triellus and the Corellian Run."
- ―Tryphon Leo, in the Smuggler's Guide
During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Separatist Alliance, an execution squad known as the Death Wind formed, led by the deserted Roonian Republic soldier Mekedrix. The death squad made attacks on groups under both the Republic and Separatists. Republic Admiral Wullf Yularen had suspicions about Mekedrix's connections following his disappearance, Roon's placement along the Death Wind Corridor backing the connection.[4]
By 10 BBY,[7] the Pyke Syndicate controlled underworld trade in the Spice Triangle, which was noted by the former pirate queen Maz Kanata in a book that was eventually named the Smuggler's Guide. After the smuggler Tryphon Leo stole the book, they planned to lock down the trade network, including the Death Wind Corridor. Leo wrote about their plans in the book and in the entry included a map of the Spice Triangle and its hyperroutes and his vision to control all smuggling along the Death Wind. Leo's plans were cut short, however, when they died trying to reach one of Kanata's mapped treasure caches in order to fund their plans.[1]
