Communication droids were a type of droid primarily involved in communications. They were a major aspect of communication during the era of the High Republic, being used by the Republic Defense Coalition as well as many other groups. They would project images transmitted to them onto walls dedicated to their use known as commwalls. A comms droid was used by Admiral Pevel Kronara to communicate with Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh during the Great Hyperspace Disaster.[4]
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the Imperial Intelligence communications hub Sector Plexus used a vast network of communications droids.[2] PZ-4CO, a Serv-O-Droid, Inc. protocol droid who served the Resistance during their war with the First Order was a type of communications droid.[3] The black, spherical, hovering droid Iris, who served the First Order Captain Cardinal was a communications droid. She was capable of controlling video cameras and internal sensors on board the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Absolution as well as giving basic medical information about nearby individuals.[1]
