- "Suddenly I feel a little claustrophobic. Let's get moving, huh?"
- ―Kira Carsen to the Hero of Tython
Claustrophobia was the fear of enclosed spaces. It was capable in manifesting in species sentient and non-sentient alike, such as Humans and Corellian banshee birds. Known claustrophobes included Jedi Knight Kira Carsen, and the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic according to Republic reports. The praxeum ship Chu'unthor was designed to negate the effects of claustrophobia while traveling in space.
Description
- "Have I mentioned I have a problem with enclosed spaces?"
- ―Kira Carsen on her dislike of enclosed spaces
Claustrophobia was the fear of enclosed spaces as found in sentient species such as Humans,[2] and in non-sentient species such as the Corellian banshee bird. Corellian banshee birds, native to[1] the Core Worlds planet[4] Corellia, were naturally claustrophobic. Thus, those who domesticated the birds usually kept them in open spaces, such as aviaries.[1]
History
- "Get this world seeded and clean it up, so we can take down these domes. I'm not claustrophobic, but –"
"The Sith you're not." - ―Doctor Plee and Aj Koenes
Kira Carsen stated that she had a problem with enclosed spaces.
In 3643 BBY[6] during a mission to the planet Taris, the Jedi Knight Kira Carsen and another Jedi—later named the "Hero of Tython"—traveled from the Brell Sediment to the Sinking City through the use of a ruined tunnel. Carsen remarked that there had to be another way to the city, stating to her fellow Jedi that she had a problem with enclosed spaces.[2] In 3638 BBY[7] while on the planet Makeb, Carsen and the Hero of Tython used the Force to create a barrier as protection against Hutt Cartel reinforcements. Shortly afterward, Carsen made a brief mention that she was beginning to feel claustrophobic, and suggested that they began to get moving.[3]
Built in 400 BBY, the Jedi praxeum ship Chu'unthor was designed by Jedi Masters Ivixa Delbaeth and Fin-So-Rowan[8] with wide corridors, high ceilings, and dozens of domed rooms. This was done to alleviate the sense of claustrophobia common in most starships.[9]
According to Republic reports, clone troopers displayed symptoms of claustrophobia.
During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, Republic reports claimed that some of the army's clone troopers displayed the symptoms of claustrophobia in their cramped quarters, which was believed to have been inherited from[10] their Human genetic template[11] Jango Fett.[10] In 22 BBY,[12] Jedi Halagad Ventor, Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sent to the planet Skye alongside the Republic's Tark Squad, with the intent to stop the genetic terrorist Zeta Magnus. While crossing through the Entyrmion, a labyrinth-like cavern located under Skye's mountain ranges, Ventor noted that the members of the Tark Squad seemingly showed no signs of claustrophobia, unlike the reports claimed.[10]
In 26 ABY,[13] the New Republic members Doctor Plee and water specialist Aj Koenes discussed their assignment from the Senate Select Committee for Refugees to terraform[5] the Core Worlds planet[4] Duro. Plee stated that the habitation domes where the planet's refugees resided made her feel claustrophobic.[5]
Behind the scenes
Claustrophobia was first mentioned in the 1996 reference book The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, written by Bill Smith and published as part of Del Rey's Star Wars: Essential Guides.[9] Claustrophobia made its first appearance in the 2011 roleplaying game Star Wars: The Old Republic,[2] published by LucasArts and Electronic Arts.[14] In the real world, claustrophobia is an anxiety disorder that causes an extreme fear of enclosed spaces.[15]

STAR WARS: The Old Republic - Question ! :) - Page 3 on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) places Star Wars: The Old Republic about ten to twelve years after the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant, which is dated to 3653 BBY by Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia. The Old Republic — The Lost Suns 2 takes place ten years after the treaty, one week after the mission to Nar Shaddaa, and around the time of the SpecForce Incident. Since the mission and the incident are respectively part of Act I of the Jedi Knight and Republic Trooper's storylines, and the Trooper's Act I occurs concurrent to Act I of the Smuggler storyline, the general events of the Prologue and Act I for all classes can be assumed to occur in 3643 BBY.
- ↑ According to
