A map of Chekkoo Province
The Chekkoo Province was a region on Rodia. The Chekkoo Enclave was located here.
Description
The province was hidden away in the deepest jungle of the eastern Betu continent. Jungle lowlands, known as the Ekloska forests, and a portion of the Ekloska Hills provided formidable terrain for anyone traveling in the region. The headwaters of the Teonsqua River could also be found here, though the river quickly turned into a vast swampland at the province's southern edge.[1]
The Chekkoo were fiercely protective of their lands. Regular patrols could be found both on foot and in the air. Poor as the Chekkoo were, they still maintained the defenses of a small army. Trespassers were hunted down as soon as they were discovered.[1] Not only the Chekkoo, but Chattza Protectors controlled traffic and made thorough checks for illegal goods.[2]
History
Chekkoo was one of the most powerful provinces of Betu. After centuries of struggle and warfare the Chekkoo clan became cautious, if not suspicious and xenophobic. They shared the land with a few smaller clans' enclaves (including the closest, Adebsu clan and Intamm clan) and were allies. Each clan had autonomous control of its enclave, though the Chekkoo, as the dominant clan, claimed final judgment for the lands of the province.[1]
When Navik the Red came to power, he rerouted the trade lanes, cutting off supply shipments to the Province, effectively making the once-powerful Chekkoo province, and its dominant clan, one of the poorest on Rodia. The inhabitants of the Province took to hiring smugglers to bring supplies to their impoverished region.[1] Chekkoo Protectors, even though not daring to confront the Chattza directly, they would use tricks and traps against them to aid expected smugglers to enter safely their province.[2]
During the Galactic Civil War, smugglers attempted to enter the provice, bringing power fence generators; they managed to evade the Chattza checkpoints and met a Chekkoo contingent at a rendezvous point. After bartaining the generators's price, the hunters evaluated the smugglers they would hire.[2]
