The Chattza clan was a Rodian clan native to the planet Rodia. Members of the Chattza were bred to be fierce hunters and reveled in their innate violent passions. They ubiquitously participated in ceremonial war games against members of the rival Tetsu Clan. A lifetime of honing their battle reflexes allowed members of the Chattza to enjoy a prosperous life as professional bounty hunters.
History
The Chattza were ancient enemies of the An'yettu clan.
Years before the Galactic Civil War the Grand Protector of the Rodians kept the clans busy with hunting and gladiatorial contests. Chattza participated in such a contest with some opponents that resulted to many casualties. Chattza accused them for violating the few but important rules of the hunt and started a vendetta against them. During the ensuing Rodian Clan Wars the Chattza fought savagely with the Roolek clan and completely defeated them.[1]
A Chattza warlord named Navik the Red took control of the clan as Chief Protector and almost eradicated all members of the Tetsu clan from Rodia. These skirmishes became known as the Rodian Clan Wars. The pacifist Tetsu Rodians fled from their clan brothers by leaving Rodia and settling on a jungle planet in 17 BBY. Navik the Red's forces eventually tracked them down, however, and laid siege to their Tendril tree dwellings.
Eventually Chattza became the dominant clan on Rodia and Navik took the title of the Grand Protector. Navik sentenced Tesus and Rooleks to death; despite Chattza had still some enemies, Navik had kept them in control, successfully isolating the An'yettu and Chekkoo clans. He consolidated its power so well, that should he die, only a clanman of his would succeed him.[1]
Culture
Younger Chattza tend to be cosmopolitan and forgot some of the traditional ways in favor of off-world fashions, forming a gap from their elders, the rural clans and the isolationist, whom they accuse for keeping Rodia behind the galaxy.[1]
Urban Chattza Rodians who were born into Navik's status quo and don't have memories of the Clan Wars, consider that they belong in the superior master clan of Rodia. Even older Rodians kept this attitude, offensive to both the clan's enemies and its former allies. The supremacist mindset brought some new tensions and conflicts even with the friendly Tonena clan.[1]
