Protector, or Rin'na in Rodese, was a Rodian title granted to the finest hunters of a clan, later obtaining a clearly military role.
History
In older times, the title was granted to the finest hunters of a clan. The best hunter was honored as the Chief Protector.[1]
The status referred to the position of hunters in their primitive tribal state, when these individuals were especially honored not only for providing food, but also for protecting the tribe from the various predators of the hostile jungles and swamps.[1]
Hunters wore armor that were unique to each tribe, further customized by the hunters according to their personal taste. The armors also had a ceremonial significance.[1]
The hunters eventually drove the hostile creatures to near-extinction. In absence of predators, the tribes expanded and got in contact, and started hunting each other; the ensuing fights over territorial and cultural differences gave the Protectors a clearly military role.[1]
The Protectors of the ruling tribe, as is the case of the Chattza, were a mirror of the Grand Protector's authority and were ruthless in the enforcement of his rule. They also controlled the Rodian Home Fleet. During the rule of the Chattza, the Protectors of the clan were the security forces of the capital Iskaayuma, consisting it a militarized city.[1]
Rodian Protector Armor was typically a modernized version of the traditional clan armor of the hunters; it was not commercially available, but some units were illegally transported and circulated off-world by others. It was segmented, covering the entire body, specifically fitted to Rodian anatomy. It was color-coded to specific Protector units, though during the Imperial Era, white was never used to avoid associations with Imperial stormtroopers.[1]
