Chasen Piian

Chasen Piian was a politician who served as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic.[1] In around 1300 BBY,[2] Piian granted a piece of grass land on Coruscant to the sole surviving members of the B'ankora species. Though the land had originally been acquired by the Republic to only serve as a intermediate sanctuary for the B'ankora after their homeworld had been destroyed by a cataclysmic collision with a meteor, Piian granted the group the rights to use it in perpetuity so they could resume their sedentary lifestyle with humble homes, fields, and trails, with the land eventually becoming known as the B'ankor Refuge. Because of this action, Piian was often seen as benevolent.[1]

Behind the scenes

Chasen Piian was fist mentioned in Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, written by James Luceno[1] and published on November 15, 2016[3] as a prequel to the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.[1]

The 2016 reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: Rebel Dossier, written by Jason Fry, originally dated the B'ankor being granted the B'ankor Refuge, and as such the tenure of Chasen Piian as Supreme Chancellor, to 131 BBY,[4] but in Catalyst it is stated that the B'ankora had lived in the B'ankor Refuge "for more than fifty generations" and had planted a copse of gargantuan trees "centuries earlier" by the time of the novel.[1] 2023's Star Wars: Timelines later instead placed the event to 1300 BBY.[2] Because Timelines is the newer source and it's date lines up better with what is established in Catalyst, this article assumes it to be correct.
