- "Ah, like beautiful candied nightjar petals as bookends to either side of me."
- ―Xylan Graf, to Jordanna Sparkburn and Sylvestri Yarrow
Candied petals were a type of candy edible by humans and Hutts.[1] One type of candied petal was a candied nightjar petal.[2] In 228 BBY,[3] the former deputy Jordanna Sparkburn and her girlfriend, Sylvestri Yarrow, kidnapped the scientist Xylan Graf while he was attending a party at the Starros Manor on the Core Worlds planet Hosnian Prime. When the two women walked on either side of Graf to escort him, he compared them to beautiful candied nightjar petals.[2] Later that year,[4] while in the Greylark family's residence on[1] the Core Worlds planet[5] Coruscant, the human Zenny Greylark and the Hutt Churo ate Alderaanian rose cake covered in candied petals to celebrate that Churo's sister Dahara Devirsivik Norri would arrive to take him home that night. Norri took longer than excepted to arrive and they continued to eat the cake while they waited.[1]
Behind the scenes
Candied petals were first mentioned in the young-adult novel The High Republic: Defy the Storm, written by Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland[2] and published on March 5, 2024.[6] The chapter they were mentioned in was written by Gratton.[7] Candied petals first appeared in the junior novel The High Republic: Beware the Nameless, written by Zoraida Córdova[1] and published on August 27, 2024. Both novels were published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III.[6] In the real world, candied flower petals are a type of candy made from flowers, sugar, and egg whites.[8]

As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As
