The Byss Run was a hyperspace route in the Interior and Deep Core regions of the galaxy. It began at the planet Empress Teta, a junction onto the Koros Trunk Line, and then connected to the planet Prakith, the astronomical object Keera Major, and then finally the planet Byss. It made up part of the larger Nexus Route.

Description

The Byss Run was a hyperspace route[3] located within the Interior[2] and Deep Core regions of the galaxy.[1] It began with the planet Empress Teta[3] in the Empress Teta system of the Koros sector[1] and then passed through[3] the volcanic planet[4] Prakith and the astronomical object Keera Major before reaching its endpoint at the world Byss.[3] Empress Teta also acted as a terminus for the Koros Trunk Line route that ran to the Core Worlds planet Coruscant and was also part of the Carbonite Run.[1] Both the Byss Run and the Koros Trunk Line made up sections of the larger Nexus Route[5] which connected Byss to the Abregado system in the Core Worlds.[6]

History

One of the earliest species to inhabit the Byss Run left behind colorful frescoes from which the designs of the paintings on the cards of the game Bakuratwere derieved.[7] During the Clone Wars, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Republic—the public identity of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious—provided the coordinates for the secret Nexus Route to Confederacy of Independent Systems General Grievous. The general then led the Separatist Fleet from the Outer Rim Territories down the length of the route to reach Coruscant and launch a surprise attack on the Republic capital[8] in 19 BBY.[9]

In 34 ABY,[10] Chandrila Star Line's Star Cruiser Halcyon displayed a partial map of the galaxy that showed the Byss Run on several screens while on a cruise from the Core Worlds' Chandrila system to the Outer Rim Territories.[11]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, the Byss Run was first mentioned in the thirty-sixth issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine,[3] published around September 9, 2015.[12] The route's first in-universe appearance came in the form of being depicted on a map viewable in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an immersive roleplaying experience at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida[11] that opened to the public on March 1, 2022.[13]

The Byss Run originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the first issue of the comic book series Star Wars: Dark Empire II, which was written by Tom Veitch, illustrated by Cam Kennedy, and published by Dark Horse Comics[14] on December 20, 1994.[15] The route then appeared in the third issue of the series,[16] which was published on February 21, 1995.[17]
