Buoys were a variety of navigational technology that saw a variety of uses throughout the galaxy. Many buoys were utilized in realspace,[3] though some buoys saw use planetside.[2] Some, such as navigation buoys, were utilized to chart courses through hyperspace.[1] Sensor buoys were a variety utilized to monitor starship activity,[4] while space buoys were utilized in the Akkadese Maelstrom in order to maintain the Channel, a section of the Kessel Run hyperspace route.[3] Buoy droids were a variety of planetside buoy that also operated independently as a droid. They were utilized to guide incoming and outgoing ships in Coruscant's spaceports.[2]
