- "[Wim knocks on glass; Neel screams] Oh, my goodness! Wim, you missed the whole test! What happened?"
"[muffled] Does your dad still got all those tools?" - ―Neel and Wim, the former taking a bubble bath
Neel in a bubble bath
A bubble bath was a type of bath that featured white bubbles floating on the surface of the liquid. During the New Republic Era, bubble baths were practiced on the isolated planet of At Attin, whose population was dedicated to Old Republic credit production. Around 9 ABY, the Myykian boy Neel's bubble bath was interrupted by his best friend Wim, who climbed onto his house to knock on the rooftop viewport. Some time later, Neel's bubble bath was disrupted again when Silvo's pirates launched a planetary invasion, with a large pirate frigate hovering over the powerless suburbs.
Overview
Bubble baths[2] were characterized by a mass of white bubbles floating in a liquid-filled bathtub. Bubble baths were taken in the privacy of one's home. An individual taking a bubble bath would have previously removed their upper clothing and sit in the tub during the bath.[1]
History
Wim peeking at Neel as he takes a bath
Bubble baths were practiced on the isolated planet of At Attin,[1] one of the Jewels of the Old Republic that accommodated Old Republic credit mints.[3] The population of the world referred[1] to the credit production[4] as the "Great Work," determining its citizens' individual aptitudes at an early age via the so-called Career Assessment Test.[1] Around 9 ABY,[5] the Myykian[6] boy Neel took a bubble bath in[1] his[2] house's upstairs refresher after he took his test.[1]
Meanwhile,[1] Neel's best friend[7] Wim had skipped the Career Assessment Test. On his way to school,[1] he[2] had happened upon a ship buried in the woods and mistaken it for a lost Jedi temple. Wim stopped by Neel's place to tell him about his find but did not find him with the rest of the family[1] in the living room[2] downstairs. When asked about Neel, his baby sister Tuloo pointed upstairs. Therefore, Wim climbed onto the rooftop[1] and looked through the skylight.[2] His loud knocking scared Neel, who was sitting topless in the bathtub. The confused boy screamed before asking his friend why he had skipped the test. In response, Wim only asked whether Neel's father Nol still had their tools, which he believed would come in handy when they uncovered what he believed was a Jedi temple.[1]
After Neel and Wim penetrated the starship, they accidentally left the planet alongside the girls Fern and KB.[1] The younglings subsequently had a run-in with a hostile pirate crew[8] but managed to escape from prison by allying themselves with former pirate Captain Silvo.[3] However, after[9] he[3] obtained the coordinates to At Attin, Silvo turned on the children.[9] When they all arrived on the planet, he posed as a Galactic Republic emissary and demanded an audience with the Supervisor, a droid tasked with overseeing the Great Work. The younglings, in turn, were sent to their homes, with Fern and[10] her[2] mother Fara keeping Silvo company during the audience.[10]
A bubble bath disrupted by a power outage
Back in his home, Neel took a bubble bath for another time. His bathing, however, was disrupted again when Silvo destroyed the Supervisor, causing a mass power outage in the process. Neel looked up to watch through the skylight as a large pirate frigate coursed over the suburbs ready to launch an aerial bombardment. The confused boy called his parents before he shortly left the bath to get in touch with the other younglings to repel the invasion together.[10]
Behind the scenes
- "That's the first thing he does when he gets back home!"
- ―Jon Watts on Neel's bubble baths
Bubble baths first appeared in Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, a novel by Timothy Zahn released in 2020.[11] They were first pictured in the live-action television series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,[1] which aired in 2024 and 2025,[12] where Neel—one of the protagonists—took a bubble bath in the first[1] and the final episode of the show.[10] Commenting on the Myykian youngling's hygiene habits, the showrunner Jon Watts noted that taking a bath was the first thing Neel did after he came back home.[6]
Following the premiere of each of the three original trilogy instalments, a range of Star-Wars–related shampoos and bubble-bath accessories were released on the market in 1977, 1980, and 1983, respectively.[13]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition,
"A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well.
SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
