A blood scanner was a sensory device used to scan blood samples. Used for medical diagnostics, a blood scanner was able to provide an analysis of an individual's general well-being. In addition, the device excelled at isolating and identifying foreign elements present in one's bloodstream, such as diseases, chemicals, and poisons. Once a toxin had been identified, a blood scanner offered advice and options for treatment, detailing antidotes and remedies. Blood scanners were able to analyze the blood of nearly any species in the known galaxy and provided extensive information about the patient's health. Around the time of the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and Alliance to Restore the Republic, a blood scanner cost 400 credits.[1]
Behind the scenes
Blood scanners were mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2019 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement Gadgets and Gear, which was published by Fantasy Flight Games.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the blood scanner originated in the 2015 Fantasy Flight roleplaying supplement Keeping the Peace.[2]
