The Blood Hunt was a coming-of-age ritual performed by the beings of[1] the Outer Rim[2] astronomical object[3] Cathar by the time of the High Republic Era. The Hutt male Churo, who resided on the Hutt Space planet Nal Hutta, was familiar with the ritual.[1] In 228 BBY,[4] Churo mentally used the Blood Hunt as an example of coming-of-age rituals beyond those of the Hutts, considering himself lucky that he did not have to undertake it, while feeling pressured to prove himself to his family.[1]

The High Republic: Beware the Nameless marked the introduction of the Blood Hunt in the current Star Wars canon.

The Blood Hunt was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2024 junior novel The High Republic: Beware the Nameless, written by Zoraida Córdova and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[5] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Blood Hunt[6] first appeared in the third issue of the 1998 comic miniseries Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Redemption. The issue was written by Kevin J. Anderson, illustrated by Chris Gossett, and published by Dark Horse Comics[7] on September 23, 1998.[8] The capitalization of the ritual's name was provided in the lower case form of "blood hunt" within the series' fourth issue, also written by Anderson, illustrated by Gossett, and published by Dark Horse[6] on October 28 of the same year.[9] The upper-case capitalization of the event's name in "Blood Hunt" was given in the 2009 novel Coruscant Nights II: Street of Shadows, the second installment in the Star Wars: Coruscant Nights trilogy, which was written by Michael Reaves.[10]

  4. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As StarWars.com Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic: Beware the Nameless between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
