- Poe: "What is this?"
- C-3PO: "The Aki-Aki Festival of the Ancestors! Oh! This celebration occurs only once every forty-two years."
- Finn: "Well, that's lucky."
- C-3PO: "Lucky indeed! This festival is known for both its colorful kites and its delectable sweets."
- ―C-3PO, Poe Dameron, and Finn[1]
The Aki-Aki were a sentient[1] elephantine[2] species[1] native to the desert planet Pasaana. They were generally peaceful and hospitable, making them welcoming to offworlders when they arrived on their planet.[3] According to Unkar Plutt, they were very literal.[4] The Aki-Aki maintained a pre-starflight level of civilization, but did adopt a number of advanced tools to aid in their life on Pasaana. Aki-Aki history was not always peaceful, however; their species faced strife between scattered clans, though they eventually worked together to survive Pasaana's harsh climate.[3] Aki-Aki had bifurcated trunks which grew throughout their lifespan. When they were born, they possessed only a singular short trunk which bifurcated around maturity.
Behind the scenes
The Aki-Aki species first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. In the English subtitles to the film, the name of the species is misspelled as "Acky Acky."[1]
