- "Drop the weapon."
- ―Cassian Andor to Syril Karn
During his tenure as a Deputy Inspector with Preox-Morlana's security service, Syril Karn carried a blaster pistol, of a model commonly carried by Pre-Mor personnel, stamped with the serial number AD-616K6KA. After Karn lost the weapon, it exchanged hands several times and became peripherally involved in certain central events of the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire.
History
Preserving order
In 5 BBY, Karn led an operation on Ferrix which was intended to result in a simple arrest but instead devolved into a fatal shootout.[7] During the chaos, Karn's suspect, Cassian Andor, was able to hold Karn at blasterpoint and relieve him of his weapon. When Andor made his escape from Ferrix, he took the weapon with him.[2]
Using the tools of an enemy
- "Corporate issue. Interesting… […] Whose is this?"
"Didn't get a name." - ―Arvel Skeen and Cassian Andor discuss the pistol's former owner
AD-616K6KA was among the belongings Cassian Andor brought with him to Aldhani.
Andor brought the Pre-Mor blaster to Aldhani when he traveled there to work a mercenary job for a rebel unit led by Vel Sartha. Andor's mercenary role was kept secret from the unit's other members, and fellow rebel Arvel Skeen became suspicious of his new comrade's origins when he discovered the corporate weapon in Andor's backpack.[1] Andor took the pistol into the Aldhani dam during the heist, but did not use it when combat started, relying instead on his own MW-20 Bryar pistol.[8]
In the aftermath of the Aldhani heist, Andor fled to Niamos, where he lived under the alias "Keef Girgo", supposedly a tourist. During this time, he kept the Pre-Mor pistol alongside his own weapon in a kit stashed above the shower in his hotel room,[9] hidden from his girlfriend Windi. When Andor was arrested and sent to Narkina 5 for incarceration,[10] his belongings, including the pistol, were unceremoniously left behind in the hotel room.[7]
A show of solidarity
- "We need to split up. Double our chances. One of us has to make it. People have to know what's going on."
"I know. Take this." - ―Ruescott Melshi and Cassian Andor, before giving the pistol to the first
Roughly one month later, Andor escaped from prison alongside Ruescott Melshi, and with the aid of two fishermen, the pair traveled to Niamos to retrieve Andor's belongings. Andor snuck into the hotel room and reclaimed his travel kit without anyone the wiser. When Melshi proposed he and Andor split up and each tell their story of the horrors of Imperial imprisonment to anyone who would listen, Andor agreed and gifted him the corpo blaster as they parted ways.[5]
Melshi continued to hold onto the corpo blaster until 2 BBY, when he joined the Massassi Group on Yavin 4. As part of the intake process, Melshi surrendered his blaster for inspection along with the other recruits. The intake officer, Vel Sartha, immediately recognized the blaster and held it up, asking whom it belonged to. Melshi quickly raised his hand and identified himself as the owner.[11]
