The MW-20 Bryar Pistol was a model of Bryar pistol.[1] An MW-20 was used by Clem Andor and later wielded by his adopted son Cassian.[3]

The MW-20 model of the Bryar pistol was a large, single-handed weapon, featuring a long and bulky frame built around a small grip. The center of the blaster featured a double ammo cartridge that rotated when the current cartridge overheated, readying a fresh one for firing.[6]

Behind the scenes

"It would completely work. [sic] Diego [Luna] became really great at flicking the wrist, very subtly hitting the button that controlled the mechanism that spun the barrel. You see him do it a couple of times in some of the scenes, and it’s just this nice little detail."

The MW-20 Bryar Pistol was created for the Canon television series Star Wars: Andor[7] and first appeared in the series first episode, titled "Kassa",[6] released on September 21, 2022.[8] It was first identified in the episode guide for the series third episode.[1] Beginning from the series early development, the series prop master Martyn Doust wanted the series protagonist's blaster to be unique and iconic. He took initial inspiration from the DL-44 heavy blaster pistol wielded by Han Solo in the Original trilogy. He and his team looked at various designs from various Star Wars media and finally settled on the K-16 Bryar Pistol from the video game Star Wars Battlefront,[7] itself based on the Bryar pistol from the Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: Dark Forces. Extra features and design elements were added by the prop designers to make the weapon memorable and visually distinct, leading it to be declared a separate model of the same weapon.[1] The weapon's rotating cartridge functionality was built into the actual prop.[7]

The MW-20 itself again inspired the CP-2 Bryar Pistol which was added as a weapon to BioWare's Legends massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic on June 13 2023 as part of a bundle based on Cassian Andor's outfit from the series.[9]
