22-X was a protocol droid that negotiated with the Trade Federation, a galactic megacorporation, and was eventually salvaged by 3 ABY by a group of Jawas on the Outer Rim desert planet Tatooine.

22-X was a protocol droid that negotiated with the Trade Federation,^[1] a galactic megacorporation.^[2] sometime before 3 ABY. By 3 ABY,^[3] 22-X's still-functional head had been removed from their body and they had been salvaged by a group of Jawas on the Outer Rim desert planet Tatooine. The group included Teeka and Entip, who traded with locals and offworlders from their sandcrawler as it moved between various settlements.^[1]

That year,^[3] the human thief Kay Vess visited the sandcrawer while looking for someone to install a turret on the Trailblazer, her EML-850 light freighter. However, negotiations quickly halted due to Vess's inability to speak the language Jawaese until 22-X interrupted to translate, informing her that Teeka would install a laser turret in exchange for a tooth. After apologizing for interrupting, the droid went on to clarify that Teeka wanted a tooth from a sarlacc creature's second mouth. After Vess agreed to get the tooth, Teeka deactivated 22-X while they were stating how the exchange reminded them of their previous negotiations with the Trade Federation.^[1]

By the time Vess returned with the tooth, 22-X had been reactivated and a replacement body had been placed next to them. Before concluding their exchange, Vess complimented the droid's new body, and 22-X thanked her for it and expressed a desire to be reattached. Afterward, Vess gave Teeka the tooth she had acquired and was shocked to see Teeka throw it into a large pile of sarlacc teeth.^[1]

22-X had rose-colored plating and yellow photoreceptors. The body they were set to be attached to^[1] in 3 ABY^[3] had a matching rose color. 22-X loved to watch commerce in action. They spoke Galactic Basic Standard and could understand Jawaese.^[1]

Behind the scenes

22-X appeared in the expert quest "The Hotfixer" in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The quest is not required to complete the game's main story nor its expansion but does unlock both the "Hotfixer Expert" upgrade tree and the ability for the player to use and upgrade a ship-mounted turret.^[1]
