"And some salted wuli nuts! I'm starving."
―Pikka Adren orders a snack[1]

Wuli nuts were a type of nut edible to humans. They could be purchased in a commissary on the planet Eriadu.[1] In 229 BBY,[2] Captain Pikka Adren of the Republic Defense Coalition (RDC) ordered some salted wuli nuts from a wait staff droid after she met with her husband Joss Adren, Admiral Pevel Kronara, and Ensign Ebbe Casset in the commissary. She ate some of the nuts after disliking the smell of the jogan juice she had ordered.[1]

Over a month later, by then 228 BBY,[3] Pikka ate wuli nuts on her starship, the Aurora III, at a meal with Joss as well as fellow RDC members Elping Tsoo and Visma Tarko, who, like them, were stranded in the Nihil marauders' Occlusion Zone. She had been eating so many of the nuts that Joss jokingly wondered if their child that Pikka was carrying would be part wuli nut.[4]

Behind the scenes

Wuli nuts first appeared in the current Star Wars canon in the short story "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal," written by Lydia Kang as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[5] The story was published in the 222nd issue of the magazine Star Wars Insider as the first installment in the Tales from the Occlusion Zone serialized fiction on October 31, 2023.[6] Prior to the magazine's release, the mention of wuli nuts in the story was included in a StarWars.com preview published a day earlier.[7]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, wali nuts were first mentioned in the 2007 novel Death Star, authored by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.[8] They then made a full appearance and were pictured in the 2003 Sony Online Entertainment massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars Galaxies,[9] which closed in 2011.[10]

  2. The part of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" that features wuli nuts takes place one year after the Destruction of Starlight Beacon, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 230 BBY. Therefore, that part must take place in 229 BBY.
  3. According to Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia, the Guardian Protocols were implemented in 229 BBY. According to Shadows of Starlight 1, this happened one week after the Destruction of Starlight Beacon, which Star Wars: Timelines places in 230 BBY. The events of The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness, including the Expansion of the Stormwall, take place exactly one year after the Fall of Starlight Beacon. The events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Friend or Foe?" and "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Survivors" take place one month after the Expansion of the Stormwall, so they must be set in 228 BBY.
