  1. As many of us know by now, Grunny recently resigned from Bureaucrat after more than eleven years of service to Wookieepedia in that position. While he still remains with us as an administrator, we certainly thank him for his faithful devotion to Wookieepedia during that time and for always taking a mature and levelheaded approach to the position of BC. It would therefore be prudent for us to fill this empty BC seat to maintain both a reasonable minimum number of BCs (3) and also an odd number to eliminate the possibility of having split decisions. With that being said, I am most pleased and honored to put forth Tommy-Macaroni as our next candidate for Wookieepedia Bureaucrat. This is by no means an insignificant moment for Wookieepepdia, as it's been more than eight years since our last BC nomination and promotion, and this will be the first opportunity for our Canon generation of editors to have a say in filling a Wookieepedia BC seat. Wookieepedia's Bureaucrats are meant to represent the best of our administrators and community in every respect. They should demonstrate a consistent, daily devotion to being in the thick of all community matters, both on the wiki and in our IRC and Discord channels; they should have the most professional and unbiased interpersonal relationships with other members of the community; they should have the strongest editing skills and acumen; and they should be someone who will tirelessly defend Wookieepedia's interests at every opportunity without compromise. I believe Tommy epitomizes all of these traits. Since Tommy became an administrator in January 2019, it goes without saying that he has stood out as a leader of our community. He continues to be a leading member of all three of our reviewing boards, he selflessly contributes as a member of our Social Media Team, he's consistently a pivotal voice in our most pressing community decision making, and he plays a simply irreplaceable role in manning his bot, TOM-E Macaron.ii. In short, our BCs should be those who we can all point to with pride as the faces of Wookieepedia, and Tommy is a testament to the best of what the Wookieepedia community has to offer. Congratulations on your nomination, Tommy. You have deservedly earned this. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 21:15, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

  11. I don't have much to add. Tommy is a level-headed user, an excellent administrator, and someone I have enjoyed working alongside with a great deal. I am confident he will make an excellent bureaucrat. His commitment to the site is second to no one and there is no better candidate for becoming the third bureaucrat. Congratulations. 1358 (Talk) 22:17, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
  12. As stated by Tope, you're one of our most active Admins, always involved with the community and with a daily commitment to Wookieepedia. As a fellow admin, I enjoy working alongside you and I know that I can always reach out for help or advice on how to deal with situations. All of this shows that you deserve this position. Congrats Tommy!--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 22:18, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
  13. Completely deserved, Tommy is an indispensable part of the community. Congrats! Wok142 (talk) 22:41, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
  14. I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with Tommy since 2018, when he first helped me out with some starship stuff, unsurprisingly. After his nomination and appointment as an administrator, I believed that Wookieepedia made the right choice in selecting Tommy. He was always a dependable fellow editor, always lent a helpful hand, was a positive force in the community, and was always active in the EduCorps and AgriCorps. Since that time, Tommy has never wavered on his qualities, always going another step forward by overseeing his own bot, joining the Inquisitorius, and being a member of our valuable Social Media Team. In short, Tommy is a great candidate for Bureaucrat, and this is very well deserved! --Vitus InfinitusTalk 22:55, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

  16. Echoing everyone above, Tommy has proven time and time again to be among our most patient, most level headed and most trustworthy users. His dedication to both the site, and his devotion to helping others is admirable, and his knowledge of the technical side of things is a nice added bonus. My congratulations, on this well deserved nomination. Supreme Emperor (talk) 01:18, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
  17. As said above, Tommy is a dedicated user and outstanding member of the community. He has taken on numerous responsibilities on the wiki, and I'm sure he will excel as a bureaucrat. Absolutely well deserved, congratulations! Zed42 (talk) 01:47, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

  20. I'm happy to throw my vote at Tommy, because I'm certain nobody has a higher dedication to this wiki and its interests than he does, and I know he'll fight for what's best no matter the cost. He's proven throughout his time here that he has what it takes to see things from both sides and to form an informed perspective, which will come in handy for the position's more political tasks. He's also capable of making needed technical changes across the wiki with his bot, and he understands how the wiki operates to a degree few others do. He's the perfect man for the job, and I'm excited to see the future of the site with him as a bureaucrat. I know it will be bright. MasterFredCommerce Guild(talk) 05:49, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

  23. There's little to say that hasn't already been said, with one notable exception. One unique role of a wiki bureaucrat is to not just take part in the administration of the community, but to administrate the administration itself. Tommy has already served that role, helping to remind me that I've been neglecting my duties here for far too long, so I have no doubt that he will make a fine bureaucrat. His productivity is admirable, his dedication to this site is exceptional, and I endorse his promotion without reservation. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 07:13, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

  26. Excellent admin, dedicated Wookieepedian. I think Tommy is the best candidate to fill Grunny's place, and he's definitely deserving of the position. Congrats! Jedi Order ImpacticForce (Talk) 22:21, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
  27. Tommy has nothing but the best interests of this site in mind. He's a dedicated and proactive member who always knows when to put the needs of this wiki above himself. I am confident that he will continue to do everything in his power as a bureaucrat to guide this community forward. RattsT (talk) 08:18, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Optional candidate Q&A
  1. Why do you think we need another bureaucrat?
    • On the face of it, because I think three is the optimum number of bureaucrats (as I'll explain later), and there is a space to be filled. However, I also think it's incredibly important for bureaucrats to be active and involved members of the community, which I like to think I am. Additionally, I think it'd be nice to have a bureaucrat active during daytime UTC, so one of us is always around to deal with an issue no matter the time of day.
  2. How do you see the difference between an admin and a bureaucrat?
    • In terms of available tools, a bureaucrat can grant user rights and I think they can also delete specific page versions (though technically admins can also do that via a sneaky trick). Additionally, when regular administrators struggle to reach consensus, bureaucrats can then step in to assist in making a decision, and sometimes a bureaucrat's opinion holds more weight than those of other users. But a bureaucrat is more than that. In my opinion, they should be someone who embodies the site and its values and is well respected by the community. They are someone who can come in with a neutral point of view and fairly assess any situation, and most importantly have the utmost dedication to the site and the community.
  3. What will you use your new status for if your nomination succeeds?
    • Obviously, I will de-sysop all the admins and claim Wookieepedia as my own, as has been my masterplan for the past five years… Really though, nothing will change about my day-to-day activities, I'll be just as proactive in my engagement with the site and community. I'll just help out with user rights jobs and contested votes if and when the situation calls.
  4. How many admins do you think we need?
    • This might be a cop-out, but as many as we need. I think having a cap on the number of admins would be a foolish mistake. So long as we're still rigorous in our selection process, I see no reason why an editor who has proven themselves to be capable and dedicated shouldn't be given the opportunity to become an admin. Obviously, it might get a bit hectic with a hundred admins running around, but I don't think that's ever gonna happen. The more pressing issue would be too few admins, and I'd say any less than ten would be suboptimal. But that's never really an issue, old admins leave and new ones appear. Right now, I think we're in a pretty good spot.
  5. How many bureaucrats do you think we need?
    • I think we should always try to have an odd number of bureaucrats, as that means we won't get tiebreaks and so can always internally make a decision. Three seems like the perfect number, as five is just a few too many cooks. Nice symbolism too :P
  6. What should happen to admins and bureaucrats who disappear for awhile without warning, leaving many questions, projects, and that sort of thing hanging?
    • My personal belief is that admins and especially bureaucrats need to be utterly dedicated to this site, above all else. And frankly, I don't think people who disappear without warning show the necessary level of dedication. This year has wreacked havoc with all our lives, I have no doubt, but nonetheless, it still takes just a second to place {{Vacation}} on your user page. Or leave an SH notice. Or hop onto IRC and explain what's happening. It's simple, but goes a long way to let the rest of the team know what's happening with you and to understand your situation. Those who fail to do this are failing to show their dedication to the site and so, in some capacity, are failing their duties as admins. If they aren't actually acting as an admin with no explanation as to why, there's no real reason why they need to continue to be an admin. I think the current expectations on admin absence is pretty good on this. I'm not saying people aren't allowed to take breaks. Stuff happens, and we all need to have a break from the site from time to time. But just dropping off the map with no explanation only harms the community. And I think this is especially true for bureaucrats. Bureaucrats should be spearheads of the community, which means daily community involvement. Not to point the finger or anything, as I have the utmost respect for all current and past bureaucrats, but I think this has been a slight issue recently. However, if this nomination succeeds, I would like to assure you that my commitment to this site and this community is unwavering. I will always be transparent if I ever need to take a break, and I guarantee I will never just disappear without warning. If something life-changing happens which utterly compromises my ability to perform my duties as an admin or bureaucrat, I would step down, albeit with a heavy heart, because I know that in that situation someone would be able to act in those roles better, so I should not be taking up space on a team I'm not committed to being a member of. But l really hope something like that doesn't happen. I don't know what life has planned for me, but as it stands, I intend on staying in this position, so long as the community feels I'm needed, for the long run.
  • As a final note, thank you for considering me for this role. If you don't want to see me as a bureaucrat and decide to oppose this, while I would be disappointed, there would be no hard feelings. Ultimately, I would be serving at the pleasure of this community. If the community decides against this, then that is what the community has decided, and I will respect that. Lastly, thank you to all of you who have helped me out on my way to this point, I wouldn't be in this position without you. That goes especially to all the AC members but especially Tope, who's been an incredible mentor to me and I'm sure many others. Sorry, this has gotten a bit long, thanks for reading all of this. TL;DR I'm utterly dedicated to this community, I understand the responsibility that comes with this position, and I will neither passively nor actively abuse it.
