Now that we have the voting process squared away, we can start nominating deserving people again. This is a person who Riffsyphon1024 invented (and I designed) an award for. He's active, he's on call on IRC and AIM, and he's an all-around decent guy. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 22:44, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Disagree with his stance on the Battle of Jabiim, and it's hard to support a clone lover :-). However, Culator's right, he's a decent guy, great vandal blocker, and vigilant copyvio spotter. I'm sure he'll have a positive effect on the site. Cull Tremayne 03:21, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Im curious as to why Kurylov says no though. UglukWhine Here 04:00, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Most likely because it will make more conflict for him, since LtNOWIS supports Karen Traviss, and Kuralyov does not. Cull Tremayne 04:26, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
        • That, and the fact he has made several unprovoked personal attacks against me both here and at TFN, and the fact that he falsey claims to be a soldier, and the fact that I just don't like him. Kuralyov 05:48, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
          • I haven't falsely claimed to be a soldier. The "Lt" in my name does indeed stand for lieutenant, but it's just a name. Just like how I don't think Jack Nebulax actually expects people to believe he's a Grand Admiral in real life. Anyways, this nomination is quite an honor, and I would be honored to become an administrator.-LtNOWIS 22:05, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
            • Well, thankfully some new rules have been laid down for adminship and Kuralyov's vote doesn't count for as much as it used to now. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 22:20, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, that's a nice way to put it. -- SFH 22:23, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Dude not cool. UglukWhine Here 22:25, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
      • Didn't mean it as an affront to Kuralyov at all, so I hope he doesn't take it that way. Sorry. I meant that I was glad new rules for adminship had been written so one admin's vote wouldn't derail the popular majority. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 04:41, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Kuralyov, can you please link to the pages where he has attacked you personally? Thanks. WhiteBoy 03:43, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Ok, this is basically through, but I was looking at the Wikipedia RfA, and saw that they had their candidates answer questions so the community can get to know them better (judge them :P). Feel free to answer these questions to let us get to know you better.
1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
  • Having absolutely no idea what Kuralyov is talking about, I think LtNOWIS would make a fine admin.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 01:14, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
1. Well, I'd of course handle vandalism and Speedy Deletions. Those are pretty well-covered already, but I guess even more coverage wouldn't hurt. Especially when page-move vandals strike and there's a lot of redirects to delete. I patrol recent changes to some extent already, so I'd be able to do that more effectively. I also like helping new users, so it would be nice to have a bigger opportunity to do that. I'm willing and able to help out with a lot of this stuff, especially the endless sourceless and copywright problems categories.
2. I generally don't go for great articles so much as short or listish ones, like doing the voice actors that needed articles for the video games from 1999 to 2001, starting the List of Imperial women, and various disambiguation pages. In terms of real articles, I wrote the original version of Bria Tharen back in June of 2005; I rewrote the Battle of Jabiim and Battle of Balmorra articles; and I wrote about half of the Dellalt article. But I actually spend more time doing minor fixes, like spelling, links to disambiguation pages, etc.
3. I don't recall having any uncivil disagreements here. I had a couple minor edit wars, like one with Kuralyov over the Dramatis Personae of Triple Zero, but I realized I was wrong, and that it didn't matter. I've been wrong about stuff in the past, which is why I think voting and discussion is generally the best course of action. While I've got strong feelings on various fan controversies, I don't make agenda-motivated edits.

  • Well, I've voted to support Lt. NOWIS, and I'm hoping he'll have a good perspective on other issues. I have a couple of questions also:
  1. How do feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
  2. How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?

Thanks. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 14:41, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

  • More questions from G.He(Talk!)! Sadly, there are a lot of them. I know, I'm a bastard. :P

G1 Why do you want to become an administrator?

G2 In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?

G3 In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?

G4 Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?

G5 What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?

G6 How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?

G7 How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?

G8 Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?

G9 If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?

G10 Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?

Thanks. :) G.He(Talk!) 04:22, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Psst. You should always answer half-full.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 21:36, 17 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Holy crap that's a lot of questions. Poor LtNOWIS. Good luck sir! Though I've noticed these people have already pledged their support anyway :-P --Azizlight 10:35, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
1. Well, admins shouldn't have any extra power when it comes to deciding policy or article content. So, most of their power should be being able to block people, being able to stop personal disputes, and being able to protect pages when there's an edit war.
2. As long as there's an admin there to count the votes, it's not vital for me personally to become involved. But I'll still participate in them if I've got an opinion. -LtNOWIS 19:48, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
G1. So that I can do a better job at contributing to Wookieepedia and preventing vandalism. And most people seem to think it's a good idea, and I'd hate to disappoint them.
G2. To keep the wiki runnin smoothly by settling disputes, blocking vandals, closing votes, and protecting pages when neccesary.
G3. Fundamentally, it's neither. It's about enforcement of order on the wiki, and keeping things running smoothly. There certainly is judgement involved, but fundamental decisions are made by the community, not the admins, and the admins just enforce those decisions. The special technical powers are just to support that.
G4. Probably not, if it's in good faith. Most likely they'd just get a warning for being overly hasty.
G5. I wait until a registered user has made a few good edits before slapping on the welcome template. Generally that means that someone else welcomes them before I get a chance to, but that's ok. For an IP, I'll put on a template after they've done a fair amount of good edits. Again, this usually means I'm not the one to welcome them, but that's acceptable. But that's just me; I don't think we need a unified policy or anything. -LtNOWIS 00:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
G6. I'd be a little ticked off at myself if I deleted something I shouldn't have. If I had to undelete something deleted by someone else, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd just undelete it and say that it's actually real, or that it should go through VfD instead, or something.
G7. I'd of course revert it, but I wouldn't really be offended. Chances are it'd be a vandalism account anyways, so they'd just get blocked. If it was an established user, I'd give them a warning. If my page was repeatedly targeted, I'd protect it.
G8. If they were making personal attacks, or repeatedly refusing to respect policy, than they'd most likely get a short block.
G9. I like it the way it is.
G10. Half-full.
