Jack Nebulax (6 users/3 users + 3 admins + 1 bureaucrat/4 users)

Support

  1. User:BobafettH23
  2. Yoshi626 22:21, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
  3. From what I've read, Mr. Nebulax seems to be quite polite user who would make a great admin. And he's got a good name too. Heh heh. Peace. Out. Moff Phoenix (Mofference) (Don't feed the trolls) Era-njo 22:35, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
  4. Rune Haako 22:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
  5. I'll support Jack for now, but cautiously. If I so much as hear him get into another fight/argument (esp. involving the use of the word a**hole), I will switch to strong oppose. I'll give him a chance though. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 17:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  6. I say the same thing, if you don't change, the vote will. Lorth NeedaStriptease 22:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. Same reasons as before really...he keeps saying he's going to change, then gets into massive arguments and edit wars with users. There's been too many times recently that he's broken policies and has almost been banned. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 21:13, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
  2. Imp 21:17, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
  3. Kuralyov 23:03, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
  4. I really want to vote "Support", because Jack is a very valuable contributor and I believe he really has nothing but the best intentions for this wiki. But his constant arguing and bickering with some users unfortunately do not make a good candidate for an admin. Needs to step back a little and not take things so seriously. Sorry Jack. --Azizlight 00:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  5. A bit too emo based on comments below and in past requests. Giving up after only a couple of days? Very down on himself and pessimistic. Admins have to maintain an even keel.BigGuy219 03:24, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  6. Riffsyphon1024 05:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  7. Herbsewell 15:52, 3 December 2006 (UTC) He's just another wookieepedian who tries to get his name at the top of the list in the history. Plus he's really nasty to other wookieepedians who don't share his opinion on a subject. He's just not admin material. Maybe if he changed is attitude and stopped arguing he could become an admin. I mean what kind of wookieepedian puts asshole in a history summary.
  8. After many promises to act in a less confrontational manner, he continues to get into personality conflicts. Most of them aren't his fault, but his actions don't seem to defuse them. He's improving as an editor, but I don't think he's ready to be an administrator. I just don't think he's thick-skinned enough. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Neutral/Comments

  1. Neutral for now. I can't really support from the reasons presented, but I don't really want to oppose either. G.He(Talk!) 22:29, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

He is a nice, polite user who edits wookieepedia non-stop. He deserves to be an admin. User:BobafettH23

  • <sigh> Typical. Three strikes, I'm out. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 21:18, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Imp and Kuralyov, would you both be so kind as to explain why you opposed? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 23:09, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Is there a way to perhaps give him administrative powers provisionally, subject to revocation? I don't think anyone here can deny that he's one of our most prolific and capable editors, but he's also one of our most contentious; his brusque and headstrong attitude in talk pages and forums has alienated many a user. In the past, he has indicated he was committed to making changes, but I think he's become a bit cynical that we don't/won't recognize this and has given up. I would like to see if the motivation to keep his access to administrative tools, rather than acquire them in the first place, would be sufficient motivation for him to strive for that better attitude; because, if he can do that, then he WILL be an excellent admin. jSarek 23:15, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Listen, I've tried. But why am I being judged by these issues and not my better points? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 23:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Because those issues are just as critical to being an admin as your better points. Admins not only have certain extra tools, but they often serve as the face of Wookieepedia; we're often the ones called upon by outside parties when an article is problematic, and a polite and professional attitude is necessary for those dealings. Furthermore, many take those worse issues as being areas of potential abuse. For instance, engagement in revert wars might make one wonder if you would use quick reversion and blocking to further your own agendas, and getting frustrated to the point of calling someone "asshole" in an edit summary might make one wonder if you'd get frustrated enough to ban someone unfairly. jSarek 23:31, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Neutral. Yes, Neutral. I'm of two minds about Jack, so I'm going to list the pros and cons of the good Admiral, as seen by me. I'm not trying to discourage his adminship, but maybe I'll sway some votes either way.

Pros:

  1. Diligent. The man keeps a strict vigil, patrolling the grounds of Wookieepedia. He's here everyday, barring some unforseen mishap befalling his computer.
  2. Consistent. Ties back into point one.
  3. Stubborn. I personally regard this as a quality, but it could go either way. He fights for his view point in a certain way (see Cons), but he's no pushover.
  4. Anti-vandal extraordinare. If anything is vandalised while Jack's on patrol, you can bet on it not lasting more than a few minutes. No one pulls a runner from Jack Nebulax.
  5. Answering machine. If you leave a message or a comment on a talk page, it's more than likely that Jack will reply.

Cons:

  1. Arrogant. I can't talk here, but then, I'm not the one up for adminship.
  2. Narrow-minded. Unwilling to accept change can be a bad thing. Often, if a user suggests a change, Jack's wholesale response is along the lines of "No. There will be no change. You are not changing it."
  3. Aversion to anons. Regards anons as inferior life-forms. I don't mean to be rude, but if Jack wasn't around, I'm sure we would have about 20 more users. But then, Jack does about 20 users share of edits.
  4. Lets personal preference cloud judgement. Many of Jack's arguements are based on subjectivity, rather than the opposite. Potentially damaging.

And now, let me tell you the tale of Bob the Goon. Back in early 2005, Bob the Goon was a poster on the 3SA at the Jedi Council Forums, who would often find redundant threads and redirect the OP to the correct "Official" thread. He was a machine - no one could match his speed. In about March-April, he was promoted to moderator, with dissapointing results. He was no longer as effective as he formerly was without the powers. He was no longer master of his domain. I feel that Jack's situation is similair to this. Please, think before you vote. .... 23:43, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Two things would be needed for me to change my vote from oppose to neutral:
    • I'd be allowed to make a subpage similar to WhiteBoy's Kuralyov page, to track Nebulax's work.
    • A process for removal of admin status. --Imp 23:55, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I think we should have a "process for removal of admin status" anyway, regardless of this vote. --Azizlight 01:07, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I'm remaining neutral.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 00:46, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Jack, could you please answer the questions? - breathesgelatinTalk 00:53, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • He did, see User:Jack Nebulax/Requests for adminship#Questions (not that it matters now). --Imp 00:55, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I really, really want to vote for this, because of all the help Jack really is to the community, and I did last time. It's hard to do with his past, but at the same time, people keep harping on him for something he did months ago. If Imp's conditions are met, I will switch from neutral to support. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 01:05, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Thanks for the link. - breathesgelatinTalk 01:08, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
        • Just end it. I give up. I've contributed enough as a regular user; I'll just keep doing that from now on. I'll improve. I mean it. But I don't care anymore about becoming an administrator. If I would ever become one, fine. But I'd probably end up screwing that up, too, and I'd be the first victim of the removal from admin status procedure. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 02:03, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I would support a temporary trial provision of admin powers. Havac 04:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Interesting, but I doubt the bureaucrats would agree to that.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 04:10, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Well, it was suggested above by an admin. Havac 04:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
        • An IRC session suggested that this RFA be kept alive- votes may possibly change after provisions are made for removal of admin powers in cases of bad behavior. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 04:43, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I don't quite understand how putting Jack on probation would solve anything. Either he is admin material or he is not. If he becomes an administrator, he shouldn't be singled out and treated differently than the rest of us.–SentryTalk 07:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • But would a recinding of administrator powers during the probationary period prevent a later bid?Tocneppil 08:33, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • If you give me a chance to prove I'm not going to screw up being an admin, I'll show you. Listen, I can improve, and I will. You guys aren't giving me a chance. Look at Kuralyov. He's had numerous issues in the past. He's actually abused his powers (sorry Kuralyov, just trying to make my point). I don't even have them yet. So why are you accusing me of something I haven't done yet? It's completely unfair. I'm improving. Granted, my recent arguements with Herbsewell and Thefourdot weren't good at all, but otherwise, I've improved. I don't want to be treated differently than everybody else. Either I become an admin or I don't. It comes down to a matter of trust—Do you trust me enough to let me be an admin, or don't you? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 14:43, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Anyone? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 15:30, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Jack would be a very good admin. Here is my list of pro's and con's

Pros

  • 1.He will be on this site nearly everyday, for hours at a time.
  • 2.He will not put up with vandalism.
  • 3.He has a very good idea of wiki editing and formating.
  • 4.He is dedicated to making this site better.
  • 5.He is always (in my opoinion) trying to help users.

Cons

  • 1.Has an attitude, but is willing to change.
  • 2.In the past he has not had a good time with other users. But is willing to change.

It makes me mad that you hold grudges against him for what he has done in the past. For all of you admin out there who hold the comments he said in the past against him, you should take a few notes from SFH. A few months back, when I was an ip address, on the Talk:Herd Meet page, I said some things to him that were very wrong.(click on the link and read it) I apologized to him as a registered user and he has forgiven me. You admin that are holding these things against him, do not deserve to be admin. SFH can show forgivness, that is a true trait of an admin. Don't hold things against people. User:BobafettH23

  • Well as soon as he stops snapping back at people then he will be considered to be an admin.--Herbsewell 17:13, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, he's trying, but with you guys holding things against him, and your smart remarks to him, how can he??? User:BobafettH23

  • Well tough. If were making smart remarks it's probably for a reason. If he can't stand it then he shouldn't be an admin.--Herbsewell 17:24, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • I have an amazing idea. How about both of you stop arguing? It's obvious neither of you is going to change the other's mind, or anyone else's for that matter. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 17:28, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Don't tell us what to do. I was just responding to his comment on my comment. We can "argue", if you want to call it that, all we want.--Herbsewell 17:33, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
        • Then take it to your talk pages. And Herbsewell, if I'm trying to get my name at the top of the history, then so are you. You just don't like me, Herbsewell. And I'm not nasty to those who don't share my opinion. And I don't argue anymore. Don't make this personal, Herbsewell. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 17:36, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Really, Iam with jack, and atarumaster88. Please stop 'NOW'. User:BobafettH23

  • Herbsewell: You can do that all you want. And I can tag this with an argument tag and request admins to moderate. Which I will. And Jack: For the sake of all that's good and right, please don't respond to what is sounding increasingly trollish. It encourages that behavior. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 17:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Jack don't tell me what to do. I'm not running for admin so I could care less how I'm judged. You on the other hand are and we're going to state you flaws whether you like it or not.--Herbsewell 17:39, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Anyway, I've been thinking over the "admin trial period". Is it possible? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 19:14, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
        • Can someone please answer me? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 20:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
          • Sometimes it takes more than an hour to get a response, Jack. StarNeptuneTalk to me! 21:03, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
            • I know, but I'm nervous. It's the third time I've been nominated for this, and it looks like it will fail again. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 21:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
              • I don't like the idea of this "trial period". If someone has a dubious record, and you're not sure that they're good admin material, don't promote them. Simple. Granted, Jack has a copious amount of edits, but that doesn't make him admin material. True, it takes two to tango, but with these recent arguements, if Jack was really lobbying for adminship, he should've pulled out before it got messy. .... 21:41, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
                • What kind of arguments?--Herbsewell 21:55, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
                  • Talk:Anakin_Skywalker#De-merge_or_seperate_article, Talk:Grievous#Two_conflicting_sources, Talk:Cade_Skywalker#The_Great-Grandson_of_Skywalker... to name a few. .... 23:01, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
                    • I thought he only argued with me. Guess not.--Herbsewell 23:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
                      • Don't flatter yourself ;). Jack has a pretty broad coverage. .... 23:08, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
                        • Oh no. I just recently had another argument with him, in which he said I was the only thing that stopped him from his "behavior's changing".--Herbsewell 23:13, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
                          • You're just the his most annoyingly persistant opponent.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 23:17, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Stop trolling, Herbsewell. --Imp 23:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
    • It's true.--Herbsewell 23:20, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Ah, Thefourdot. Us redheads. ;) Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 00:12, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
