- I think there were a few admins who were trying to decide just how long to wait before posting this nomination, then Roron Corobb beats us all to it. As I've said on IRC: If we had to pick just one more person for adminship and then close the RfAs for a few months then I'd nominate Ataru. (Note that I'm not actually suggesting closing RfAs; that would be a terrible idea. It's just a hypothetical situation I'm using for rhetorical effect.) He's more diplomatic than many current admins (myself definitely included), and quite adept at mediating disagreements. He should be an admin for all the same reasons he's WotM. -- Darth Culator (Talk)(Kills) 14:07, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- Bonus points for calling me a technical wizard! :P Not really, but he's probably the only person I've considered nominating recently, and I think a break from more RfAs is in order after this one. —Xwing328(Talk) 16:36, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

- I don't mean to be rude but as part of the new policy implemented at Forum:CT:Admin Age, all new potential candidates are required to be of adult age (18+). So are you 18 years or over? Please don't see this as an insult but as a necessity. The only underaged admins protected from this new ruling are those who were installed prior to the new law. MyNz 09:17, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. Yes, I am of suitable age, and I would have removed the RFA myself if I wasn't. Riff can verify my age if you prefer to have proof without vested interest. Atarumaster88

- Thanks for working us, I hope you will enjoy your new position as an administrator. Use your powers wisely to help Wookieepedia not to harm it. Have to admit that I am under 18 years of age though you may not have realised it earlier. Zainal 23:05, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Q & A
G1 Why do you want to become an administrator?
- Well, the idea was first brought up to me a couple of months ago. (See this link) I hadn’t thought too much of it before that point, but began to somewhat consider it since then, more so since other users have said I’d be good for the job. So the answer is, because I can make Wookieepedia a better place with more power/responsibility. I’ve already made forays into areas that are “traditionally” admin areas, such as argument moderation, combating of vandalism, etc. and feel I could be more effective as a sysop. In an ideal world, with no edit wars, arguments, vandals, or trolls, I wouldn’t be needed as an admin, but this is an imperfect world. Ultimately, that’s what the community is here to decide, and I am a servant of the community.
G2 In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
- Administrators are to contribute to Wookieepedia’s articles, set an example of good behavior for other users, participate in community votes and projects, combat vandalism, speedy delete articles and nonsense, help new users, maintain order, and moderate discussion.
G3 In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
- Technical power begats (what a fun word) political power, so both. Because of the increased abilities and status in some votes that admins are granted, their position becomes somewhat political, as well as technical.
G4 How do feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
- To quote Theodore Roosevelt, “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” Admins should be by and large treated like other reliable users- which is what they are- except on those occasions that their special powers are needed, like vandalism. When they do use those powers, they should do with caution and good discernment, and without letting emotion overly influence them.
G5 Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- That really depends on what you mean. I’ve been in a bunch of arguments and fights. The thing is, I was usually the neutral party trying to stop them or at least keep them civil. =) If you mean, have I had conflicts with other users- I don’t think so. I haven’t seen any conflicts on my talk page or had any personal attacks lobbed my way that I know of (besides vandals), so no. As far as stress, well . . . I got a little caught up in some of the Ugluk mess when trying to moderate, and that, combined with RL stress, led me to take a week-long vacation. The most stressful thing to me is when people get into fights over ultimately silly reasons. I’ve dealt with it pretty well I think. I don’t let it show very much at all in my responses. Honestly, it takes a lot to make me mad, and if someone does make me mad, I absolutely refuse to let that be reflected in my contributions, because that’s immature, un-professional and un-Christian. In the future, if someone really stresses me out, I’ll try and settle the issue with the user or, in severe cases, avoid them for a bit.
G6 Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- I’ve been particularly pleased with Battle of Borleias (Yuuzhan Vong War; Second), having gotten it to FA from a merger status practically single-handedly. Also, I’m kinda proud of eliminating all 70-something redlinks off of The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology page. And I’ve done a lot of work on major OT characters, like Luke, Han, Wedge, and Lando. Still lots to be done on that front. Oh yeah, I also tell myself I was big factor in getting the RFA rules changed.
G7 What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
- I plan on helping combat vandalism (particularly via VIP), moderating talk pages and the Senate Hall, voting on vfds, helping new users with advice and help, enforcing various rules, speedy deleting fanon or nonsense, in addition to my normal contributions to the community. Oh, and I’ll pay special attention to Category:Civility disputes and Wookieepedia: Harassment in Progress.
G8 How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
- Very important, which is why I’m already heavily involved in CT, IDrive, WOTM, RFAs, FA, Senate Hall, a WookieeProject, etc. I never got too much into QOTD, but other than that, I try to stay involved.
G9 Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
- Well, we can’t write policy for every little thing. If you mean the admin is blocking for no good reason- if they repeatedly exhibit that trend, then yes, and in extreme cases that could lead to removal of admin powers. For less severe infractions, I’d ask them to reverse the action and maybe apologize if it affected another user. But it would take a community response to make me do more than just ask that admin once to apologize or anything like that, and they’d have to be clearly in the wrong. We all make mistakes. I don’t hold other people’s against them and wouldn’t want someone to hold my mistakes against me. If the admin is operating in a gray area not defined by policy, well, it depends on what they did. Probably nothing worth getting upset over. There isn’t too much that can be done here that can’t be changed back quickly, so it’s best not to make a big deal over an ultimately minor matter.
G10 What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
- If it’s a registered user that hasn’t been welcomed, I try to welcome them in good faith, so I usually don’t look at their contributions. I’ve welcomed a few, but I hope to get better in that area. For anons, I usually don’t greet them, but if I did, I would definitely look at their contributions first, due to the sheer volume of anons compared with registered users.
G11 How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
- Do you mean before or after I stop banging my head on the desk for my stupidity? If I had mistakenly speedied something, I’d thank whoever fixed it and try to get my head screwed on correctly. I’d undelete an article speedied by another admin if it was a canon topic, but on pretty much everything else, I’d ask them about it on their talk page before I undeleted it. Most of the time, ignorance is the cause of many of these “problems,” not willful deletion. Hopefully that would settle it.
G12 How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
- Having been a victim of userpage vandalism, that depends on before or after I stopped laughing at the vandal. I’d revert it, and give them probably two or three warnings, but only one if it was graphic, sexual, violent, or otherwise totally inappropriate. If it got repetitive, I’d consider protecting my page to cut down on mine and others’ workload of reverting it. As my userpage isn’t a huge part of Wookieepedia, except to me, I wouldn’t get too wound up about it.
G13 Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
- 3RR violations, vandalism, continued personal attacks after warning, anything of that ilk. I’d be hard pressed to block an established user for things such as ignoring an admin’s request to stay off a certain talk page, but I won’t rule it out either. Mostly short blocks, if necessary.
G14 If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
- I’d like to see us getting along with each other a whole lot. I’ve seen too many fights and arguments over a ‘’’made up universe.’’’ It’s kinda sad to me.
G15 Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
- Half full, but if something good is inside, I’d like a full glass. I try to look at the best side of users and Wookieepedia in general. If Jesus could ignore the flaws and treat other people respectfully, I should try and do the same. Yes, I know, there is no try.
C1 Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
- I’d like a few more provisions for personal attacks and arguments, particularly with short blocks. I don’t see a problem with a short block or cooldown. If I was out of line, and another admin blocked me with good reason, I’d go so far as to not unblock myself and serve out my “time-out.” The policy is mostly good though. I’d like a provision allowing for faster blocking for adding vulgarity or graphic content to Wookieepedia.
C2 Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
- Since just before my first Mofference, I asked Culator to help me get onto IRC. Since then, I’ve been off and on. I can’t say regular, but I’m there sometimes.
C3 How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
- As I’m only a spectator in any community except this one, and a very limited one at that, I don’t think people should come here with the sole purpose of changing our site. We aren’t them and they aren’t us. I think we should be open-minded and respectful of other people’s views, especially if they’re acting in good faith or even could just possibly be acting in good faith.
C4 How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
- Enough. 1,000,000<x<1,000,000,000. An integer number. However many Leland and Abel finally decide. All of the above. Take your pick.
C5 Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
- Jesus Christ. Duh. If you mean Star Wars character, the most awesome Jedi ever was Luke Skywalker. He’s so idealistic, yet so amazingly powerful too. Don't get me wrong; Kyle Katarn is awesome too, like the Chuck Norris of the Galaxy.:-P
- OK, just kidding about the last two. :-) -- Darth Culator (Talk) 00:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- K1 Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party? Kuralyov 00:19, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- No. I’m no Communist.
I1 What's more important to you: consensus or policy? --Imp 00:24, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- The two are symbient. Consensus is needed to make policy, and new consensus can, in most cases, override policy. I say most cases, because no consensus in my mind should create a policy that is illegal, etc. I’d really say they’re both important to me, but if consensus was to change policy, that’s usually fine with me. I will respect the will of the community, even if it is in direct opposition to my personal wishes.
- A few other thoughts for the interested: If you're looking for a technical wizard, like Sikon, Xwing328 or Sentry, I'm not nearly that good with wikicode. And if you are looking for someone active all over the SW community as a whole, that's not me at this point either. If you want someone who will go along with the crowd, that's not always me. Atarumaster88
(Audience Chamber) 06:29, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Question 23: Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
- Yes. Without infringing too much on my privacy, I can say that I've held leadership positions in a variety of organizations, etc., and have done well with them. I have served multiple club/organization/team positions in RL, and have had some small leadership experience online, though much less than in RL. Atarumaster88
