Het Nkik

  • Nominated by: Chack Jadson (Talk) 21:18, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Nomination comments: Sad story. The little guy just wants to help his people and ends up dead. Life is indeed cheap on Tatooine.

  1. My only objection to this is how you have dealt with the Wizards card. As far as I can tell, there is nothing to specify that the background actually is Jabba's Palace, and even if it is, there is nothing to say it could not have occurred before 4 ABY. Consequently, the Bts note seems a bit of a stretch. It also means that image can be in the body of the article. --Eyrezer 00:02, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Heh, this is a debate I had with myself. I actually first stumbled upon this on Sompeetalay's blog. You can see a Nimbanel in the background, which he claims is proof that it's in Jabba's Palace. However, there also seems to be a Nimbanel in Chalmun's cantina (Mosep Binneed, IIRC), and so it could very likely be Nkik. I ultimately just went with what Sompeetalay said, lacking hard evidence either way. However, looking over it, it seems that I should probably just assume that the scene pictured is from ANH and change the article to reflect that, thus removing that BTS note. Sound good to you? Chack Jadson (Talk) 00:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
      • That sounds good to me. --Eyrezer 00:23, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
        • BTS note removed, image added. I'm not entirely sure I like the image there; I may move it up a bit tomorrow. At any rate, thanks. Chack Jadson (Talk) 00:33, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
  2. Prepare to be savaged...
    • Can you give a little info about why Wimateeka and the other Jawas didn't want Het and Jek to sell the droid to Valarian?
      • Added a bit of info. Basically, the other Jawas believe that they shoudln't dare attempt anything difficult or new for fear of the potential danger, which I think is explained throughout the course of the article. If you don't feel the bit I added is enough, I can try to work some more in however.
    • What's the nature of his appearances in the short stories you have listed but don't reference?
      • Two of those are those referenced to other sources, like CSWE and EGtC. Minor info in a couple of the stories, and the others just contain info that is repeated in the above sources and reffed to those, just because. :P
        • OK, that's fine by me, but I've been asked to make mention of this kind of stuff in BTS before for completeness's sake. ~ SavageBob 13:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Similarly, what's the nature of his mentions in the sources you have mentioned by don't reference? The CCG cards in particular are often good fodder for BTS material, as they often have game effects inspired by the character depicted.
      • Nothing new. Chack Jadson (Talk) 23:59, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
      • I think it might be worth mentioning that his CCG card gives him more power for each stormtrooper at the same location, but only if Reegesk is not there. That shows how his story has been interpreted in a novel way, into card game stats. I won't oppose the nom over it, though. :) ~ SavageBob 13:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Poor little guy. Good work so far! ~ SavageBob 21:16, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
  3. A BtS technicality:
    • It was not until the short story Swap Meet: The Jawa's Tale—written by Kevin J. Anderson—included in Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina and published in 1995 that he [Nkik] was given a name and a backstory. Nkik is also mentioned by name in Trade Wins: The Ranat's Tale, by Anderson's wife Rebecca Moesta, a story published at the same time and in the same book. So Nkik was not given a name only in Swap Meet, and his backstory was also partially developed in Trade Wins (or re-told, but can something be re-told if it's arguably the first time it's told?). Suggestion: It was not until the short stories Swap Meet by KJA and Trade Wins by KJA's wife Moesta, both included in TftMEC... --Skippy Farlstendoiro 10:33, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
      • Well, if I did that, I would have to include all the other stories in TftMEC (or at least The Stormtrooper's Tale, which established that he died). I think it's pretty obvious that Swap Meet established his backstory first; that is to say, it was likely written first. At any rate, it's before Trade Winds in the book, and thus is Nkik's first appearance in the anthology. Nearly all of his backstory comes from that story and I don't feel doing what you suggest is necessary. Does that seem reasonable to you? Chack Jadson (Talk) 17:43, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
        • I disagree but it was more a suggestion than an objection. --Skippy Farlstendoiro 06:24, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
  4. Attack of the Clone
    • "despite his clan leader questioning him": please clarify how this could hinder his actions.
    • If you're going to have a "possible appearance" in there, please try to clarify your reasoning as to why it's possible.
    • Please note that while this type of linking can be used outside of articles, it's rather improper and unprofessional when included in actual articles. CC7567 (talk) 03:17, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
      • Could you explain what you mean with that comment? Chack Jadson (Talk) 20:15, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
