Description
The Wanton Wellspring was a cantina located on the arid planet Rajtiri. Located in the city center of the city of Jibuto, the Wanton Wellspring was a hole-in-the-wall location. The Dressellian Has Obitt found the Wanton Wellspring was not a very unique location, thinking it was no more inspiring than the Contented Krayt on Tatooine, or no more nastier than the Malicious Moondog on Suba.[1]
They served strong drinks, featured live music, including a Twi'lek band, and Obitt considered its wait staff to be attractive, particularly the Dressellian Woana. Gamorrean bouncers would work the door. The bartender was a four-armed humanoid. As a haven and headquarters for smugglers and rogues of all kinds, the Wanton Wellspring had a back room reserved for private groups that also served as a hidden area to stash illegal substances if the authorities inspected the premises. With many underground activities occurring there, the patrons of the Wellspring were a discreet bunch. The room could fit over a dozen people and had a ten-year-old holoprojector that could display maps and even entertainment holos.[1]
During the Imperial Era, stormtroopers would respond to incidents at the cantina and detain any troublemakers. Local police previously did not interfere with many of the activities at the cantina, and the Imperial garrison nearby meant more secrecy was required. The Empire's presence disrupted the relationship between the cantina and local police, would warn the owners of the Wanton Wellspring about raids.[1]
History
After the end of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Obitt sat with a group of smugglers in the Wanton Wellspring, which included the Nautolan Ranos Yalli, the human Ribert, and another human. While Yalli sipped an iced beverage, the smugglers lamented the growing shortage of work. As they argued about the band's music, with Obitt expressing distaste for the song they were playing, two other patrons in the cantina drew knives and began a fight. When Imperial stormtroopers entered the cantina and detained the pair, the rest of the customers in the Wanton Wellspring booed and cursed at the troopers. Shortly after the incident, Obitt noticed his contact Matese, a former Republic Intelligence direct action operative who now served the Empire, enter the Wellspring and sit at a corner table far away from the bar. Obitt made his way over, with Matese informally greeting him by saying that he hated the song that was playing. After a conversation, Matese offered Obitt work in smuggling arms. Obitt accepted the job and worked with Yalli, Ribert, and the other human to deliver Separatist weapons to the planet Samovar.[1]
After the job, which had resulted in Obitt and the others making more money than they had made during the entire war, Matese insisted Obitt return to Jibuto to meet with him at the Wanton Wellspring. As he entered the establishment, the Gamorrean bouncers ushered him inside despite the line to get in, and as Obitt made his way towards the corner table that Matese had reserved, he noticed many other smugglers inside staring at him. Although Matese was not present, Obitt say and waited for them. The smuggler Molo approached Obitt and began questioning Obitt about the nature of his job on Samovar. Obitt learned that the weapons drop had been an Imperial operation designed to "discover" the weapons on the planet and use the event as a means to strip the planet of its Legacy world status, meaning the Empire could begin mining operations there. Molo accused Obitt of being an Imperial sympathizer for working with an undercover Imperial like Matese, but when Matese entered Molo left and returned to his own table. Matese feigned innocence on the nature of the job on Samovar and gave Obitt another weapons delivery job, which would involve travel to the planet Wadi Raffa.[1]
shortly before they carried out a smuggling operation. Later, following his stand against the Galactic Empire, Obitt returned to the Wanton Wellspring and received a hero's welcome at the Wellspring.[1]
