- "This can’t be Samovar. The northern continent was completely forested when I was last here. It looks like a desert."
- ―Nari
Samovar was a legacy planet in the Western Reaches[2] portion of the Outer Rim Territories. It was located in grid square I-18 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Samovar had mining interests that legally mined minerals there in accordance with Samovar's status as a Legacy world. During the Clone Wars, these interests aligned with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Galactic Empire hired Ranos Yalli and Has Obitt to transport cargo to Samovar, and were paid handsomely. While they celebrated their payday and earned the jealousy of other smugglers, Obitt later discovered the Empire's true goal via Molo. The Empire's cargo had been old Separatist weapons, which they had paid to have dropped on Samovar so they could "discover" them and thus remove Samovar's legacy status. Without its status as a Legacy world, the once-verdant world could be mined to exhaustion for doonium and dolovite, crucial materials for the construction of the first Death Star. Nari and Lyra Erso later visited Samovar and witnessed the planet's destruction from space.[2]
