"I joined your Delegation of Two Thousand, and I was arrested for my efforts. I told Mothma I'd vote for the Rebirth Act only if it contains no power grabs, nothing to complicate the messaging."
―Wajiss[1]

Wajiss was a Togorian male who served as Senator in the Galactic Republic and joined the Delegation of 2,000 during the Clone Wars. When the Republic became the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, Wajiss was arrested for treason along with other delegation members but eventually released. As a member of the Imperial Senate, he agreed to support Senator Mon Mothma's Imperial Rebirth Act as long as it made no power grabs.

As the bill evolved, the Togorian came to feel it breached what he had agreed to and when Senator Bail Organa's staff contacted his staff during a lockdown to ask if he still supported the Rebirth Act, Wajiss was outraged. He traveled to Organa's private estate, Cantham House, seeking Mothma and, when she proved unavailable, berated Organa over what he saw as a betrayal. He eventually shoved Organa to the floor before leaving.

Biography

Arrest of the delegates

"She broke her promise to me! I spoke to Senator DuQuosenne, who says she's been betrayed as well. And now you have the gall to call my staff after midnight, in the midst of a terrorist threat, wanting to know where I stand?"

Wajiss joined the Delegation of 2,000 during the Clone Wars.

Wajiss was a Togorian male who served as a senator in the Galactic Senate of the Galactic Republic. During the Clone Wars, he joined the Delegation of 2,000, a group of senators concerned with the accumulated power of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. When the Republic reformed into the Galactic Empire with Palpatine as Galactic Emperor[1] in 19 BBY,[2] many members of the delegation were arrested for treason including Wajiss, although he and others were eventually released after varying levels of mistreatment by the new regime.[1]

Wajiss remained a senator in the new Imperial Senate and within the first year of the Empire's rule, Senator Mon Mothma began gathering votes for the Imperial Rebirth Act, a motion that would reduce the Emperor's authority and return some power to the Senate. Wajiss agreed to vote for the act so long as it contained no power grabs or elements that would complicate its messaging. However, he came to feel that he had been lied to when the bill evolved in ways that he felt breached what he had agreed to and spoke with Senator Nadrian DuQuosenne, who also felt she had been betrayed after agreeing to sign the bill. He also attended a treaty ceremony with delegation member and supporter of the bill Senator Bail Organa of the planet Alderaan, although the pair were only able to speak briefly.[1]

A call too far

"Where is Senator Mothma?"
"Unavailable. What's the trouble?"
"The trouble, is that this is not what I agreed to."
―Wajiss and Bail Organa[1]

After the Separatist assassin Soujen Vak-Nhalis arrived on the Empire's capital, Coruscant, with Organa as a hostage, Coruscant's Federal District was placed into lockdown to try and capture Vak-Nhalis after he released the Alderaanian senator. During the lockdown, Organa took the lead on coordinating the bill while Mothma attended a meeting on the moon Hesperidium. After midnight, one of Organa's staffers called Wajiss's staff from the Alderaanian's private estate, Cantham House, to ask if the Togorian still supported the bill.[1]

Feeling he had been lied to, Wajiss confronted Bail Organa at Cantham House while searching for Mon Mothma.

Outraged at receiving the call, Wajiss made his way to Cantham House, roaring in the foyer before pushing his way through a large group of aides while shaking his mane and bearing his fangs. Spotting two security officers preparing to confront the angered Togorian, Organa called out to him and made his way through the aides to speak with him, greeting Wajiss and bringing up the ceremony they had attended, but the other senator cut him off and demanded to see Mothma.[1]

A vote lost

"Are you through?"

The Togorian then declared that Mothma had lied to him and brought up DuQuosenne's grievances as well, berating Organa for the call his staff had received. Organa tried to placate Wajiss, saying that the Togorian knew what the process of passing a bill was like but admitting that no one should have called him at such a late hour and offering to take any blame if Wajiss had been mistreated. Hoping to keep the other senator focused on him so that he might salvage a yes vote, Organa suggested they talk on the house's patio, but Wajiss ignored him.[1]

Wajiss demanded that Organa find Mothma, but the Alderaanian repeated that Mothma was unavaliable, suggesting untruthfully that she might be working with the authorities to keep them all safe, Wajiss shoved the smaller man, causing him to tumble back into a lounge table and strike his spine before hitting the floor. Security rushed into the room as the Togorian began yelling, but Organa waved them off and, after picking himself up and meeting Wajiss's gaze, he demanded to know if the senator was done. The Togorian merely growled and left through the foyer, leaving Organa to assume that he no longer supported the vote and wondering if other votes had been lost as well due to Wajiss's pull. When the Rebirth Act did eventually come before the Senate, it passed, although the Emperor vetoed some of its elements.[1]

Personality and traits

Wajiss only agreed to support the Rebirth act under certain conditions and when he felt he had been lied to about this it angered him enough to confront Organa in person and eventually resort to violence when he was unable to locate Mothma. To Organa's eye, Wajiss was massive and had the bulk of a small mountain, standing a full head taller than the human. The Togorian had white fur.[1]

Equipment

While at Cantham House, Wajiss wore a formal black overcoat that accentuated his musculature and contrasted with his white fur.[1]

Behind the scenes

Wajiss appeared in the 2025 novel Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, which was written by Alexander Freed as the first instalment of the Star Wars: Reign of the Empire trilogy.[1]
