Vintrium was an valuable^[3] ore that could be found on the Mid Rim planet Mapuzo. Although highly-flammable in its raw form,^[2] the substance was able to withstand substantial blasterfire once properly refined.^[1] Mapuzo's mining industry centered around vintrium and drew the attention of the Galactic Empire, who set up a garrison on the planet to oversee production.^[2]

In 9 BBY,^[4] the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader located his old Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mapuzo and cornered him in a quarry outside a small village. Seeking to torment his enemy, Vader toppled a container of vintrium and set it aflame with his lightsaber before using the Force to throw Kenobi into the inferno.^[2] The intense flames required Kenobi to seek healing from a bacta tank on Jabiim.^[5]
