According to a mythology of the Galactic Frontier, a greedy prospector reached too far into the Unknown Regions and returned with more than he had bargained for.[1] By around 379 BBY,[2] Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani learned of the prospector while she was studying ancient frontier mythologies. Nitani received tattoos on her arms describing scenes from some of the mythologies she had studied, including the story of the prospector, each of which had a moral tale embedded with a lesson.[1]

Around that year,[2] while undergoing her Jedi Trials on the world Batuu, Nitani had difficulty locating the shield she had been tasked with finding. She reflected on the stories and remembered the prospector, noting that although she took their messages to heart and found them comforting, there was nothing in the tales that would help her with her task.[1]

Behind the scenes

The prospector was mentioned in the short story "Shield of the Jedi," written by George Mann and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 "Shield of the Jedi" — The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life
  2. 2.0 2.1 "Shield of the Jedi" establishes that Rooper Nitani is around eighteen years old during its events. In The High Republic: Quest for Planet X, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates the events of to 382 BBY, Nitani is fifteen years old. Therefore, "Shield of the Jedi" must take place around 379 BBY.
